Great article, James. You’ve gotten me really interested in the counter-economy with your recent Agorism podcast and the older peer-to-peer economy podcast. Anecdotally, “Agora” in Portuguese (my mother’s language) means “now” so for me it takes on an additional meaning!
So, having recently discovered (amongst so many other new discoveries, many of them thanks to you) the benefits of natural, preferably organic, health and beauty products like natural seed oils and butters such as coconut flesh and oil and Shea butter, I am now doing a bit of research so that I can start selling natural products to consumers – using the counter-economics principles you’ve introduced me to!
I can’t express enough gratitude that this space exists. I don’t know why it took me so long to subscribe! I have learned and been introduced to so many mind blowing things here, my life has literally been changed. I have to thank you so much for being a part of that. Peace and love to you!

This is a timely article for me because I was just turned into the Department of Agriculture for, gasp, selling milk and cheese from our family cow. Interestingly, while I was doing research for my reply to their “cease and desist” letter, I happened to read parts of the Washington State Constitution. Article 1, Section 1 states, “All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to protect and maintain individual rights.†And further down, Article 1, Section 32 reads, “A frequent recurrence to fundamental principles is essential to the security of individual right and the perpetuity of free government.â€
In their letter to me, the DoA held the position that the only thing they would permit me to do with my excess milk (my cow currently gives about 5 gallons/day) or other dairy products is to share it with friends and family on my property. The code they cited in the letter specifically forbade “persons” from bartering, trading or even giving away unlicensed milk. They want me to buy a license, submit to inspections and upgrade my facilities to their standards. Basically by the time I put in a kitchen they’d approve of to make my cheese, I’d be spending $30,000 to sell 5 gallons of milk/day at $5.00/gallon.
My reply to their letter was that they don’t have my consent to tell how to manage my dairy excess. The code refers to persons who are a party to the contract of the code. I’m a human being, so I challenged them to show me the code that says their RCW (code) includes human beings. I also asked the individual who wrote the letter if she swore an oath to uphold the constitution, reminding her that she needs to follow it.
Hopefully I’m small enough–just one cow–that they’ll just let me be.

A question on the theory of counter economics: So we may be directing resources away from the corporatocracy, but how does their ability to create money from nothing, and now lend with zero interest or negative interest rates affect their economy? Can they continue to buy technocratic adherents to their system by printing new money continually? Or can our economies ever hope to snuff theirs out?
James, can you do an episode on how the control of shipping along with the way the IMF encourages countries to produce export commodities over local food self sufficiency helps the .001% control countries via sanctions? Or maybe you already have, I just haven’t found that one. Anyway, I think we need to focus on local food self sufficiency so that we are better able to refuse the globalists. And support alternative health care, as big pharma is just so corrupt.
