-Glitzy talent reality shows (like The Voice) where the audience and jury vote on the best and the worst performers (15 Million Merits)

It’s been great fun and I like to think, illuminating.
But point well taken, nice to hear the birds chirp and the kids play in the playground too, smell the pine trees and the earthy ploughed fields in autumn.
If you ever did change your mind and address this exceptional TV series with FLNWO, I think the episode entitled “Men Against Fire” would be the most fundamentally relevant to your preoccupations. Talks about military technology and Eugenics and brain chips.

It is certainly not out of disrespect for Mr Corbett that I am linking this 7 minute and 48 second video essay (not my own) on the Black Mirror episode Men Against Fire.
I mostly agree that we all spend too much time in front of screens, much of it vacuous.
But the world is not ready to turn off its televisions so it’s perhaps not entirely useless to find out what folks are watching in order to see what is being “communicated” and attempt to offer perspective, if possible, on those messages, images, “values”…

I “predicted” last year (no penetrating observational skills required) that this year’s season of GoT would be a pamphlet for global governance (Ã la UN) – Of governments putting down their petty imperialistic tendencies to fight “the Great War”, side by side against death. I watched one season of Black Mirror on my friend’s recommendation. I had never really discussed the content with her after that.
Anyway, I don’t think this show goes in the direction of normalization of depicted theme, but borders more on the side of analysis of “what if” scenarios. I draw this conclusion from the fact I find most of the content not as glorified (what many war movies do with this topic) but quite disgusting instead.
This show reminded me of the old “The outer limits” show. Back then I used to watch a lot of TV.

To me, it seems like this series has some profound depth.
I think that “depth” can be found within many different TV shows and movies. Maybe not in the entire ball of wax on a show, but perhaps aspects contain depth.
I toast the writers. …the writers (and artists) who bring depth to the screen.
“Emerald City” was one series which had a lot of beauty to it. Someone knew how to capture the aesthetic value of places around the world. Also, the writers were very clever in how they portrayed the “Wizard of Oz” with a twist.

According to Still, the yellow brick road was actually golden. Here it’s supposed to be poppy?
The plot line has complete twists to the original Wizard of Oz. It is a completely different rendition. I was amazed how the writers incorporated the characters. And the characters themselves have agendas or traits which are not part of the original story.
This only ran one season and was cancelled by NBC. So the full scoop of the story has yet to be told. I could tell that there was a lot of storyline for future episodes. For a TV series, I was impressed with its beauty and clever rewrite.

Btw, after some 20+ years, we’ve drawn back film producers to film on our locations. Was glad to see it going, but now we’ve attracted mindless TV series fans as tourists.
Dubrovnik, as example, was my favorite vacation place. It’s so beautiful with very proud people and special spirit (of the locals and the town itself).
It also has AMAZING history too it, not just the beauty. It was a city state, very rich based on trade and diplomacy. It had interesting laws and culture. Not just a cliche, believe me (or look it up yourself).
Now its awfully crowded and it would make me mad to see it in such state, so I stay away. Only truly rich (talking about world ‘elites’ can get a 6 star villa balcony view for selfies). The rest are struggling to walk in packed old town.
Most of the tourists are looking for where what was shot for TV and films and it’s, imho, disgrace. Whatever those are about, they cannot be as interesting as the spirit of that town. Didn’t know about Emerald City, but, if I recall correctly, GoT and Star Wars was shot there too in last few years.
This year the new mayor even made a decision to cut down the limit of tourists allowed in town to lowest limit ever, by not allowing as many cruisers to dock. I was glad to hear that, because I’m seriously worried about hordes of people with no respect to real historic and art beauty is currently doing to it. Hopefully they will stick to it, as planned from next year.
This is semi-off topic, or maybe not. I was glad and mad at same time to see Croatia on the list, for above mentioned reasons.
Maybe it’s not completely off topic if I conclude with – those ‘movie sets’ are way more interesting then whatever script writers came up with. Turn off your TV!

As much as I have grown to despise nationalism, I’m glad to see a person or two from my general neck of the woods. Understaning the world better than the other ants, or at least apearing to, can get a bit lonsome sometime.
I agree with everything you said avout Dubrovnik, it’s become a commercial mecca for cheap tourists from all over. We can see a similar scenario on all of our coast, just not as extreme as in Dubrovnik.
What’s so said about our very existence is that we can’t draw lines between simple issues such as infrastructure, industry, tourism and are unable to realize the need for a middle ground. Lets just run everything into the ground, instead.
As if natural beauty or cultural heritage is something that should invoke a sense of pride.

This is obviously a very high class joint, it’s reminiscent of those juppies who think they’re Japanese because they decorated their apartment a certain way.
Either way, the village looks pretty authentic for an Adriatic coast type of affair, they should have put stone pavement instead of asphalt, but it’s good as it is. I can’t place that “zin zen” thing, but OK.
One thing that stood out was that thing about zoning or lack of it. It’s pretty much impossible to build anything here, while following the law, without jumping through hoops for years while obtaining every damn possible goddamn “permit” under this Sun of ours.
Rhetorical question for the day: if permits and licenses are issued to legalise things that are deemed illegal, when has it become illegal to build a home for oneself and their family? I understand limitations will always apply, but this is getting ridiculous. Here, I mean, obviously not in Texas.

I hear ya about “permits”. My 40 year old son is a supervisor for contractors and manages major construction sites. The permit issue is a racket for the government bodies. Expensive as sin, and time consuming. Headaches galore. Costs galore on the permits. Inspection. Wait, wait, wait for the inspectors so you can work. …and competency/care/concern of many contractors is a commodity long-gone-down-the-drain.

During a class I asked the following question: ‘If there was a vote and everybody was somehow forced to be perfectly candid, and the question was “Who wants a total surveillance grid?” – What percentage would vote for it?’
The prevailing opinion was “more than 60 percent”.
To what extent do people want to feel watched?
In a world where children have largely been deprived of their parents’ time and energy, to what degree does the human psyche of the masses crave attention?

I mention the above video to help point out one aspect which we have in our control when it comes to TV or movies…or food or products or whatever.
While often the Corporatocracy tries to influence us, we also influence the Corporatocracy.
We see our influence in many areas, from GMOs to tidbits in TV and movies.
Like Corbett points out, there is balance. And he encourages real world interaction, rather than being sucked into a virtual prison of TV or phone or internet. Choices. And each of us are free will individuals with different interests and skills, free to make our own decisions, not bound by what others think (whether they be Corbetteers or normies).
No matter where we are, we feed the machine. Anything that has ever been transported has helped to feed the machine.
I think a lot depends upon one’s own mindset in how we individually choose different options.
And, of major importance, I think that helping to raise the awareness of others is key towards shaping our future and influencing the Corporatocracy.
So, in essence, I don’t have a problem with folks watching TV or movies.
I certainly don’t like to impose a “moral code of acceptable behavior” on free thinkers nor on normies.
For me personally, I am kind of selective on what I will watch on TV or movies, just like I am selective of how I spend my time. Some things I watch out of curiosity and fathoming trends, and some shows for enjoyment or entertainment.
Like I mentioned above, there are two sides to this “viewing TV and movies”. While they may try to influence others, we also can “influence their content”.
As far a feeding the machine…
We all end up feeding the machine in different ways. Watching YouTube feeds the machine just like watching TV and movies.
Every person who wears clothes has fed the machine. You are feeding the machine if you have an internet provider. Anything that has been transported has fed the machine.
For me personally, all this boils down to a mindset. Kind of like an attitude of trying to decentralize in ways which fit the situation for the individual.
But I won’t put forth a moral code for others to live by.

When I owned my bookstores and wholesale operation circa 2001, I had about 30+ employees.
Two guys who worked in the warehouse were from Mexico. Great guys and their English was better than most Tejanos. And they read more books than most Americans.
I asked the guys one day how they snuck across the border and other stuff about when they first got here. They told me that when they arrived in Dallas, they couldn’t speak English.
They learned English by watching American TV.
One day, my office gets a letter from the government saying that they had a question about the Social Security number of one of the two guys.
So I sit down with the guy and he tells me his Social Security number is fake. He was sad. He knew it meant he would be fired. So, I “fired” him from my legal payroll and told the bookkeeper to put his hours on my paycheck. So he got to keep his job and I would pay him cash every week from my paycheck.

I (not by conscious choice) quit turning that thing on about 15 years, but rather started doing other things. BEST thing that my daughter and ever did!! The time her & I have spent doing other things together is irreplaceable!!! I raised her by myself and many people have asked how? The answer is clearly “cut the cable, blow up tv and get involved in everything they do” Crap I even volunteer on a board of directors for her figure skating club during her time in that!

Well, this year, it does seem that hurricanes have stolen the 9/11 show finally.
I am wondering whether an added solution would be for all human beings to choose a purpose on which to focus their attention/imagination/creativity.
Whilst their attention is focused to achieve a satisfactory outcome will put out of mind sight or into the background information that does not serve that purpose.
That purpose, helping all humanity, requires passion, persistence and true care . Nothing can be created without care. Since the creative outcome from that purpose requires discoveries it, at the same time, is a discovery of truth and this moulds/conditions the mind to know what truth is.
I am wondering if humanity is on the cusp of a new renaissance as new generations take advantage of the vast information field now available on the Internet.
I don’t see any positive outcome from TV broadcasts unless they are deterring aliens from wanting to invade our planet.

I’ve spontaneously quit TV when I got hooked on ‘truth stuff’ and funny how many times I’ve been asked why in a worrying tone from my loved ones. Silly how it’s hard to explain to people how real info is waaaay more interesting then the fiction they are hooked on (including news).
But really, now I find myself addicted to all this and was contemplating how to cut my YT time. What you just did made this idea more real, thank you.

Vacations over; time to catch-up on the Corbett show. I remember the black and white TV.we had when I was young. My parents both referred to it as the boob-tube or the idiot-box. I must admit mom and dad had no illusion of the negative connotation that potential uses the TV had. As I got older they seem to have gotten smarter and my appreciations of their insights became keener. I do regret not telling them how much I valued those intuitions and insights they possessed.
It’s great to see so many great comments and variety that could peek anyones interests. Its a regular Truman Show. You never know what is comming next. You could call the Corbett Report a show,its raw but entertainmenting and rewarding educationally. Comes like radio or with a screen. The interactive nature is an improvement over conventional TV. I do not think I have traded one screen for another. I left old TV years ago and on a whim picked up an Ipad just for kicks and something new to explore some science projects I was exploring. I’m a firm Allen Watts type for books over digital data for depositories of truth and history. Book clubs exchanging ideas are so different from the singular disassociation you see in the detachment of Iphones and laptops. No comparison. Thirty people in a pub silently sitting with their noses in a screen, zoned out from all around them is not the way to exchange ideals and as Mr. James says connect with the real world around you.
