Thanks for reiterating your Solutions episodes, as it’s nice to have them summed up and sited in a single pod cast. This prompted me to realize I must have assumed you were already familiar with the concept of Permaculture. Perhaps you are, but I’ve never heard you use the term, and it would benefit your audience (and perhaps yourself) to familiarize yourself with it.
Permaculture is based in principles and ethics which I believe reflect just what a truly thriving anarchistic society would need. The three simple ethics are; Take care of the Planet; Take care of the People; Return the surplus to the first two ethics. No one I’ve seen does a better job of explaining this than Toby Hemenway. His talk on “Redesigning Civilization — with Permaculture” on Youtube explains the evolution of oppression and it’s roots in agriculture and breaks down the ethics and principles of permaculture and how they apply to rebuilding independence, community, and our environment.
I’ve heard Toby as a guest on other programs, usually he’s being interviewed more for his view on permaculture as a gardening technique, however I’ve been dying to hear his perspective on practical community solutions on turning our society around on a whole and how the permaculture ethics and principles apply to other facets of community and life. I would just love to see a Corbett-Hemenway interview, and I can only imagine the kind of community collide that would come along with it. Just a thought!
This talk is thick with information, history, and SOLUTIONS!

Realized I should add a link from his actual site! PatternLiteracy.com
This is a recent artical on permaculture as the design tool-kit for solving problems as one/culture experiences a paradigm shift and seeks to create new solutions.

Thanks for the link, metal.lamb, and allow me to stress that this video IS NOT a summing up of all of the solutions-related info on the site. In fact, it barely scratches the surface and doesn’t even mention important work on building community organizations, non-compliance, health freedom, open source 3D printing and many, many other topics.
As for permaculture, I was originally toying with Ep 299 as a specifically “permaculture” episode, but I couldn’t find any iterations of that ideology that weren’t whacky New Age material or promoting climate change nonsense, so I changed the focus to guerrilla gardening which I think takes the important parts of the idea as I see them. I will look into the site linked above as you suggest, though.
Sorry about that — certainly not ALL in one place, though knowing to search the tag “solutions” helps with that!
I’ve had a similar experience with researching permaculture, lots of talk about over population, man made climate change, and the like. I hope you find Hemenway’s perspective refreshingly realistic. As he gets into in his article I posted, his view of permaculture is that of a skill set (or tool kit) which allows us to create and implement ideas, and can itself bring about a paradigm shift for those who haven’t come to see the flaws and manipulation entrenched in our current systems — rather than the hippy-dippy pseudoscience religion many have turned it into.
Hope you like the article and video!
