This week we discuss the austerity conundrum, in which governments convince people of their necessity by creating a government-controlled economy and then pulling the rug out through austerity measures. From Italy’s elections to the sequestration “cuts” in the U.S., more people are buying into the government line that the only solution is increased government spending (and taxes).
