No, Social Media Should Not Be A Public Utility
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIuBERhA8Jg
An important message from Broze, he mentions Jimmy Dore as well, so it’s nice to hear I’m probably not 100% certified insane because I find these calls to even more government meddling by people who’re supposed to be anti-establishment to be completely insane.
Broze is spot on. Anything the government touches turns to shit.
I, too, have noticed this bent towards more government control and regulation regarding Social Media and mega-corporations.
The recent movie THE CREEPY LINE had hints of a “more regulation” agenda for Google and Facebook.

Spoiler alert:
Derrick spilled the beans about a coming interview with JamesC.
Senate Votes To End Yemen War!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-ZmdfVUxUg
This is an interesting development. I’m sure nothing will evolve from this vote, they didn’t vote when they were going in, so why would they vote to get out?
Ignore the climate change tropes, butt Jimmy Dore manages to stumbles onto true nature of voting but I don’t think he managed to get to a breakthrough, this time at least.
Also, an excellent oneliner in the end: “So, a bit of good news that actually reminds you of all the bad news.” Duke Nukem couldn’t have said it better, bless his animated soul.
With all due respect to you Mkey,
Jimmy Dore blows a lot of hot air to whip up emotions on universal anti-war messages so as to wrap the imperceptible propaganda seed in a furious cloud of feel good f-word indignation – that seed, every time I give in to watch one of his videos, has invariably been that man-made climate change skeptics are morons, the noxious nugget meant to be swallowed whole, unnoticed, with the rest of the savoury and cathartic outrage. Like the good gatekeeper that he is.
“…Not one critical fuckin’ person allowed on those news shows!…”(Dramatic pause)
The day Jimmy Dore allows Judith Curry or Don Eastwood or some other critical and credible man-made climate change skeptic on his show, I might start taking him seriously.
For now he’s just another gatekeeper using truth to get the social media run as a public utility, get Trump re-elected and act as an accomplice for a massive war being waged on the populations of the world,
that of so-called man-made climate change and all of its eugenical fallout.
…but maybe it’s just the full moon…
I don’t think he qualifies as a gatekeeper, at worst he’s just not very well informed.
His ideas are very wobbly, he probably thinks he’s anti-establishment, but at the same time he’s very socialized and of course doesn’t realize it. I know certain people in my area, also comedians but with a lot less audience, people who’d consider themselves anti-establishment but as soon as someone mentions a possible and obvious solution they put on the party bandana and pull out the old trusty “what can you do about it, it’s how it is” adage.
Of all human traits, I despise hypocrisy the most. To have some anti-establishment figure clamoring for governmental intervention into whatnot it quite sickening, but at least it’s also very obvious so you can quickly get the general idea whom you’re dealing with.
Dore will come to the precipice of misunderstanding and almost manage to fathom a coherent, original thought, but I don’t think here’s there just yet. Mostly in his shows he parrots stuff he gets on the MSM, he obviously doens’t question parts of it, relying on the confirmation bias instead.
There’s a whole lot of red flags on his show, like the “gun control” issue, the ever evolving “climate change” or the “social media public utility” fiasco or the undying “lets vote changes in” bullshit. He digs many of the mainstream red herrings, but there’s more layers on that onion than he’d care to imagine.
The guy is a comedian and mostly he promotes other people’s thoughts without much of his own to add, besides often humorous commentary. I skip almost all of his videos on voting, but I like keeping tabs on many of the MSM nuggets he manages to unearth. Also, I think he has a decent potential to access a wider range of audience, to at least partially wake them up to the real state of affairs.
He may be a gatekeeper. His connection with the young turks doesn’t help this argument of mine, but I think he’s just an unwitting participant.
So did you get the message…? good question…
dunno… I tend to think these alerts are more than just fear mongering. They send another more ominous message as well, don’t they?
I mean, back in September, in our French city, the “President of the Region” wished all the high school kids in the area a great “back to school” period and a school-year full of success”…
by texto…
He too, like the U.S. president and the Canadian president and the Japanese government, found a pretext for sending his constiuents textos on their personal smart phones…
If the American and Japanese messages have rather frightening undertones in contrast to the French well-wishing, the REAL message is common to all four nations. You’ve now been officially notified:
“We have your personal cell phone numbers and we’re henceforth freely using them as we please… to protect and take care of you, of course…
Your private smartphone is now public and as was the case with the mandatory installation of the “Linky” smart meters everywhere no one is interested in your opinion about that. That’s what democracy is all about!! Voting for who will officially ignore your opinion on important issues.
But, you do want the public education system to take a personal interest in your child’s success, Right?
You do want your nation to save you from natural and unnatural disasters, don’t you?? (albeit either two seconds late or in the absence of any real disaster)
So, did you get the message?
I don’t think that’s a matter of “having phone numbers” as much as being an issue of “the telecommunications company has a fascist pact with the entity known to the plebs as the government.”
No, it’s not an issue of “having phone numbers”. Government’s always had them.
The idea is simply that another shade of human privacy has vanished almost imperceptibly…official etiquette, another semblance of respect for privacy has been scrapped.
Government has now actively, brazenly barged onto my private screen without prior notice or ceremonious invitation.
whereas I at least enjoyed the benefit of an illusion of respect for privacy when I was called upon to grant my bank permission to use my cell phone number for authenticating payments.
anyhow.
Again, I don’t see that as being an issue in this instance.
The telecommunications company has the numbers, obviously. Even if numbers are not listed, they have them. They may not have names associated to these numbers (i.e. “burner” phones), so the whole privacy thing may be a bit moot, but they obviously can and do track your comings and goings and if they record and analyze texts and calls en masse then they probably know your name and your first hamster pet’s name as well. That’s assuming you have a “stupid” phone which doesn’t have the monitoring capability of its smarter brother in which case they could be aware of the possible cardiac arrhythmia you may have.
The gubment managed, thanks to whichever public safety claptrap nonsense excuse, to institute a mechanism through which “they” can send through whatever they wish to, plausibly, all users. I don’t think there’s anything pointing at the possibility they are sending to specific people based on their identity. They may start targeting specific geographical areas, that should be fairly easy to do.
Were these messages customized on a per user basis, you’d have an argument, but as it is I don’t think anonymity is any more of an issue than it was before you received the first gubment warning text. Simply by having a phone you are basically relinquishing your right to privacy and I personally can’t see how does this new thing exacerbate the issue.
With this move “they” are showing us that the mobile communications network has become a “public utility” for all intents and purposes.
“With this move “they†are showing us that the mobile communications network has become a “public utility†for all intents and purposes”
That’s the point.
It’s not about anonymity, or targeting specific people (except high school kids), or even spying…
It’s that the government now has a right to barge onto your phone with its messages, whatever they are, and that’s perfectly normal, whereas it wouldn’t have seemed so not so long ago.
I gave booking.com my number, so it sends me ads. A little irritating but admittedly sollicited…
I never authorized the government to send me ads on my cell phone.
irrevocably hooked into the government matrix
The next step, after singling out the high school kids, is personalized messages or threats disguised as public service notices, conerning your social credit score for example or the unpaid parking tickets, or the perils of hanging out with climate change denier criminals…until the friendly family facebook becomes mandatory and charged with managing that sort of thing…
The government conversing directly with your kids on smart phones… and that’s perfectly normal… doesn’t it just give you the warm fuzzies?…
Guess I’m just an ol’ fuddy duddy with old fashioned ideas about me and my child’s private space.
Those are all legitimate concerns. But the only solution is to dump the phone. Or at least get a faraday box for it to rest while it isn’t needed.
After all, government push notifications are for your safety.
a faraday keeps the gov’ment away…
or something like that…
goo’night.
I looked for good news too – there’s not much around as he said.
I had some personal “Good News” and Fun today.
A guy calls me regarding some information about some assets which my siblings control. He is in the oil and gas business.
We are chatting. He tells me that his Austin, TX office is going to have a “Conspiracy Party”. Evidently, they are a lot of fun. One of his fellow employees had a “Conspiracy Party” in Dallas not long ago. Each person is given 5 minutes to present a conspiracy. He was trying to figure out what to do for the party.
I told him: “Man! You will win hands-down with this! Watch James Corbett’s How Big Oil Conquered the World! It is really good and there are so many aspects…for example…we used to have a lot of public transportation, but it was deliberately destroyed….
As we were talking, he pulled it up on his computer. He says, “Oh yea! I gotta watch it.”
So…who knows…maybe James Corbett will be the life of the party.
What kind of party hats conspiracy party goers wear? … tin foil.
*drum roll*

I knew nothing about Steve Jackson Games until I watched a reallygraceful video on 9/11/18, titled “THE MYSTERY of the Illuminati Card Game”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG0nOpqI0UU
Don’t remember how I came across reallygraceful a year or so ago. Maybe someone in TCR comment section linked to her YouTube channel. . . .
Have you heard of her, HRS?
Hi CQ,
Yes, I definitely remember “reallygraceful”. This was likely more than a year ago or so.
I remember watching one of her videos about Saudi Arabia.
I think I saw one video where she mentioned the Corbett Report and admired James Corbett…or perhaps I found out about her from the “Recommended” area following a Corbett article. It has been awhile, so I am a bit foggy on how I ran across her.
I coincidently happened to land on one of her videos the other day, when YouTube recommended the “Human Experiments pre-1970”. I watched some of it.
Here are flyers for your next “Conspiracy Party”…

Chocolate covered conspiracy nuts.
Speaking about conspiracies…
Today Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland revealed she is a Conspiracy Theorist!
Here is what she had to say today about Jamal Khashoggi’s murder:
“The murder of Jamal Khashoggi is abhorrent and represents an unconscionable attack on the freedom of expression of all individuals,†Freeland said in a press release.
“Canada continues to call for a credible and independent investigation. Those responsible for Jamal Khashoggi’s murder must be held to account and must face justice.â€
In the meantime, she has placed sanctions on 17 individuals
she believes are complicit in her conspiracy theory:
Mansour Othman ABAHUSSAIN (born 10 or 11 August 1972)
Naif Hassan ALARIFI (born 28 February 1986)
Fahad Shabib ALBALAWI (born 24 January 1985)
Meshal Saad ALBOSTANI (born 27 March 1987)
Thaar Ghaleb ALHARBI (born 1 August 1979)
Abdulaziz Mohammed ALHAWSAWI (born 20 July 1987)
Mustafa Mohammed ALMADANI (born 8 December 1961)
Badr Lafi ALOTAIBI (born 6 July 1973)
Khalid Aedh ALOTAIBI (born 28 June 1988)
Mohammad AL-OTAIBI (born 6 November 1964)
Saif Saad ALQAHTANI (born 1973)
Saud AL-QAHTANI (born 7 July 1978)
Turki Muserref ALSEHRI (born 1982)
Waleed Abdullah ALSEHRI (born 5 November 1980)
Mohammed Saad ALZAHRANI (born 8 March 1988)
Maher Abdulaziz MUTREB (born 23 May 1971)
Salah Mohammed TUBAIGY (born 20 August 1971)
Who would ever have believed that Canada has a crazy tin-foil-hat-
wearing conspiracy theorist as their Foreign Affairs Minister?
For you see it is perfectly legitimate for a Canadian
politician to become a conspiracy theorist,
but woe is the poor American/Canadian/world-citizen
who declares something like:
“The murder of 3000 Americans is abhorrent and represents an unconscionable attack on the freedom of expression of all individuals.
America/Canada/the world continues to call for a credible and independent investigation of 9/11. Those responsible for the murders must be held to account and must face justice.”

What’s in a name? 😉
Good catch.
Guess who came to Big Oil Town this week end. That’s right the grand walking ostomy bag Sen.James Inhoff, Chairman of Armed Services Committee. The Grand PoopBag had this to say : Tulsa World BHMG
Headline Dec.1,2018: Inhoff defends military spending.
“The U.S. may still be a military giant, but the midgets are getting a lot more dangerous,”
“Used to be only the giants had WMDs, now everybody has them.”
“You can have a country with no resources, but if they have a WMD, they’re actually more of a threat because other countries have more to lose.”
“We use to be worry about giants. We don’t worry about giants so much because anybody can have a weapon of mass destruction.”
” …the battlefields more likely to be on the internet, the laboratory or a single weapon in the hands of a few determined adversaries.”
Does that sound sane given the audit? He proves Washington is cookoo! God help the midway performers.
Can anyone direct me toward some articles tackling the issue of a country entering the Euro zone and effects of said move on local economy?
Expected benefits for countries aspiring to enter eurozone (Croatia, Latvia) and actual conséquences for Eastern European countries who’ve already done so (Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia).
“STRATEGY FOR THE ADOPTION OF THE EURO IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA
The results of research relating to other countries show that the increase in prices amid conversion was registered in the service sector and with lower number of frequently bought products. In the process of conversion of national currencies into the euro the following rose the most: the prices of services in restaurants and coffee shops, accommodation prices, hairdressing services, different repairs, dry-cleaning services and recreational and sporting services. The prices of goods did not go up significantly due to conversion.56 Somewhat more pronounced effect of conversion on price growth was registered in relation to goods that are bought more frequently (bakery goods and newspapers) and are at the same time relatively cheap, so that the rounding of their prices to new attractive levels would lead to substantial price spikes. On the other hand, there is a registered tendency for prices of goods of higher value, such as durable goods, to be rounded down, which is attributed to intense competition on these markets and technological advancement.
In accordance with the experiences of other EU Member States, the effect of the conversion of the kuna into the euro on the increase in the overall inflation of consumer prices in Croatia is expected to be mild…”

SLOVAKIA: THE CONSE QUENCES OF JOINING THE EURO AREA BEFORE THE CRISIS FOR A SMALL CATCHING-UP ECONOMY
“… However, in the Slovak case, the international financial crisis aborted the expected boom before it could take hold… As a result, euro adoption did not improve the financial conditions of these economies fully. By contrast, the fact that the exchange rate is no longer available as a macroeconomic stabilisation tool has raised fears that the country cannot adequately deal with adverse external shocks, thereby making it a more likely victim of contagion.
This study describes how Slovakia navigated the crisis and how it returned to strong, albeit jobless, growth.Further insights are provided by a comparison with Estonia and Slovenia, two other countries which have recently adopted the euro…
…The adoption of the euro has not improved the attractiveness of Slovakia to foreign investors in the way that it was expected to before the crisis…
…Following this, the fall in exports in 2008/9 was associated with a new increase in unemployment to nearly 15 percent. The jobless recovery of 2011 did not succeed in improving the situation in the labour market. Entrants were strongly affected, particularly by the economic downturn, leading to a youth unemployment rate of 33 percent. A similar situation was observed for unqualified labourers, whose situation had actually worsened during the period of economic convergence. Women, on the other hand, have not been significantly more affected by unemployment than men….”

In relation to comment awaiting moderation concerning the conséquences of the adoption of the euro (past and future) by Eastern European countries:
Two or three speed Europe
In Louvain-la-Neuve, he [Macron] pleaded for a “two or three speed Europeâ€, to allow frontrunners to move towards European integration in the hope that others will follow.
“The big mistake that we have made in the past five to ten years is that we always want to decide everything at 28, maybe tomorrow at 27 after Brexit. This is not true, this has never worked this way,†Macron said…
…He also suggested that decisions should no longer need the approval of all EU member states: “I am in favour of changing the treaties, we reach a point where it must be done. We should not be afraid, but we should also keep in mind that whoever is against can no longer block the others.â€
Also pressed for a “common European defence”:
“…Common defence
Speaking of efforts to put in place a common European defence, the French President said: “We have done more in a year and a half than what has been done since the 1950sâ€.
There could be “no idea of a united Europe if in a corner of Europe we say ‘we cannot protect you, ask someone else’,†he pleaded.
“We also need a common foreign policyâ€, agreed Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel…”
https://www.euractiv.com/section/future-eu/news/in-belgium-macron-pleads-for-two-or-three-speed-europe-treaty-change/
mmmm okaaaayyy, you’re quoting the central bank.
I’ve seen estimates of 0.2% price increase by “experts” while we very well know that, for example, Italy was hit so hard by the swap to Euro that people employed full time now live with their entire families out of their car on outskirts of Rome in an ever increasing number. In their case prices literally doubled overnight. A friend living in Italy for a long time now says the situation is getting unbearable, people taking on really shoddy jobs for 500€ per month just to get by for a month or two.
The last time we got shafted really hard was sometime in the late 90es when a new flat tax of 22% was introduced. It was slated to *replace* various tax rates that were present at the time (I think it was mostly 16%) but instead, surprise surprise, everything went up 22% over night. It’s what I refer to as the duck and roll principle – shoot the prices up and then cower and wait for people to blow off steam and just ride it out.
Another issue is that we currently have practically a fixed ratio to Euro anyway and that has completely destroyed our economy in favor of out of control imports so in that regard swapping to Euro might not be that terrible, most of it has been completely destroyed anyway. But people here are so fond of price gouging, I can’t but feel a tad worried.
BTW Macron is a champ.
Absolutely, I’m quoting the only info I could find quickly (which might be revealing in and of itself) and I tried to demonstrate with extracts that even by “official” reports alleged expectations exceeded actual benefits.
I would feel “a tad worried”.
Don’t need convincing the deck’s stacked against the people.
Macron’s a champ? a chimp? a chump? Care to elaborate?
Here, if you prefer, is a totally (ahem) objective perspective from Forbes:
“The very idea of the euro was a bad one–they were told it was going to be a disaster and they were even told exactly why it would be such. And it even turned out to be a disaster for the predicted reason–but still they did it and still they won’t dismantle it…
…Now it’s true, we’ve had a very nasty recession in recent years but that’s no excuse for such an appallingly high unemployment rate at this point. The UK, US, Czech Republic and so on, places outside the eurozone, are back to full employment (and the Czechs almost certainly below it). And if there’s something wrong with the economy like excessive unemployment then we’ve rather got to assume that there’s something wrong with economic policy. Which there is in the eurozone, it’s the euro…
…What did happen? An asymmetric shock turned up which affects southern Europe more than northern and no one has any policy tools to deal with it. Not by happenstance, they actually designed it all this way…
…Thus my unwavering opposition to the European Union.”
https://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2016/12/01/the-pernicious-effects-of-the-euro-eurozone-unemployment-below-10-first-time-since-2009/#18ab4c4c5153
Feel better?
Nice Forbes excerpt about the EURO.
…and…
I like this quote…
manbearpig says:
Don’t need convincing the deck’s stacked against the people.
“…Results suggest that the economic costs greatly outweigh the benefits, and that there is little evidence that these effects will be alleviated with time…”
Another impartial American perspective:
“The European Economic and Monetary Union:
Assessing the Impact of a Single Currency on Member States1
Giuliana Carozza
Senior Honors Thesis
Department of Economics
University of Notre Dame
This paper contributes to the literature with an empirical analysis of the effects experienced by euro-area countries as a result of the single currency. The findings indicate
increased business cycle synchronization and intra-region trade among member states, but also severely restricted economic growth due the loss of domestic monetary policy as a tool for
internal stabilization.
Results suggest that the economic costs greatly outweigh the benefits, and that there is little evidence that these effects will be alleviated with time…
Member states as a whole trade more with partners within the EU-28 than with countries outside, but there is a relatively large variation among countries in this proportion. For the twelve countries studied in this paper, the median value of the intra-EU
to extra-EU trade ratio has traditionally been about 65%. This means that intra-EU trade amounts to 2% of total GDP. Therefore, an average 13-16% increase in intra-region trade over the fifteen-year time horizon translates to only a 0.25-0.32% increase in GDP.
This economic benefit is dwarfed by the costs, as the business cycle counterfactual analysis suggested a decline on average output of 15-35% as a result of the euro… ”

Dark web dealers voluntarily ban deadly fentanyl
https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/dec/01/dark-web-dealers-voluntary-ban-deadly-fentanyl?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Story in the article goes a bit differently, in guardian-readers style.
With the same data one could make a completely different story.
Guardian: “They are “delisting†the high-strength painkiller, effectively classifying it alongside mass-casualty firearms and explosives as commodities that are considered too high-risk to trade.”
Effectively classifying…let’s make another effective classification.
What people need?
Some people need drugs. People don’t need mass-casualty firearms and explosives. Mafia needs this stuff, illegal and/or legal mafia. (ok, americans can have their guns or stashes).
Looks like Fentanyl can be a poison. I don’t think dealers stop selling it just because it’s too risky because of police, something Guardian is saying. Risk is in-calculated, already present with other things, sometimes with death-toll included.
Maybe it was just over the top for dealers or market operators to sell drug-poison.
I would spin this story: People ain’t that bad, even dealers ain’t that bad (except snake-oil pushers).
my personal party-pooper’s paranoid pondering…
Curious phenomenon this Fentanyl thing…
Just heard about it for the first time only yesterday when a student excitedly showed me a doc she’d seen about it 48 hours earlier on prime time French television.
Apparently the European press and Trump are really helping to make the drug’s existence known at the moment.
But we all know that bad press can be excellent advertising… inviting all those disenfranchised depressive and otherwise bored or suicidal folks out there an exciting and easy way to end their mal être…
tried and true population control… and generally great business…
Though originally synthesized in Belgium of all places back in the 50’s and showing up in other stimulating forms such as cocaine, if you consider the opium wars recently evoked in this WW1 doc (I think…?) it’s poetic justice or at least a cute twist of fate that China’s the dealer’s source today… the ultimate sugar-daddy…that’s what I call sending the blow back…
…also a good pitch for the dark web for all those suburban milk-toasts out there who’d rather get an IT savvy friend to navigate digital darkness rather than be seen hooking up directly with distributers…
