Bono never fails to disappoint…
One implication of the successful creation of race-specific biological weapons would be the refutation of the assertion that race is a social construct. I doubt the Russian population is sufficiently genetically distinct from say the Poles or Swedes (or maybe even Nigerians or Chinese?) to make it a realistic target, but admittedly I don’t claim to have an adequate background in genetics to justify any firm view on the matter myself. Interesting nonetheless.
I don’t think many in the general public have “an adequate background in genetics”, including myself but I at least have university chemistry and biochemistry.
The hyperbolic trajectory of the modern knowledge base puts the most significant things way out of our reach, never mind our grasp.
I have long held the personal belief that the so-called SARS outbreak (2002-2003) was in fact a live test of Asian genetic vulnerability.
Of course I could be mistaken. However if my suspicions are even close to a reality, then advances since then could have found some genetic choke points in specific human variants. In which case, who can discount the inevitable weaponization?
I worked briefly in a biophysics lab years ago but never had to understand genetics in any depth, and in any case I’ve forgotten virtually all of the biochemistry / microbiology that I learned at that time.
I’ll agree that if such weapons can be made, it’s a safe bet that someone will make them (if they haven’t already).
