Interview 1285 – Lyn Ulbricht Updates Us On Ross Ulbricht

07/10/201746 Comments

Lyn Ulbricht, mother of Ross Ulbricht, joins us today to discuss the arrest, conviction and unconscionable double life plus 40 year sentence of her son in the Silk Road case. We discuss the case against Ross and the exculpatory information that was withheld from the jury (and sometimes even the defence) during his trial. We also talk about the loss of his appeal in the 2nd District court and where the FreeRoss.org campaign goes from here.

  1. Richard Ran says:

Then.. he became very interested in the Liberty Movement with Ron Paul’s campaign and in Austrian Economics and Agorism.

Hey, that’s me. Time to watch my back I guess.

Delta lodge, it would be nice to view this story and let me gain wisdom to apply justice fairly. Why are you blocking this? I can’t view on youtube, its blocked. And that sucks.

    • generalbottlewasher says:

Finally got to see this story. I must be in a sun flare area that keeps this device receiving error to download from youtube 401.geez.
I recommend clean living like Robert David Steel says ” clean as Caesar’ s wife” kind a living. I suppose they would just make something up if they really feel you need to go away. Hear!hear! let it be known General Bottlewasher breaks no law, keeps good books , pays all taxes due and gives to the poor.Amen.And I am not a Platoist believer in suicide or any other kind of suicide. There! James ,sad, sad story with connections to my hometown and homestate.

The courts are corrupt! Look at the court that gave Larry Silverstein 4.5 billion dollars….

  4. MaryD says:

I find it absolutely DEPLORABLE that Ross Ulbricht does not have any chance of parole.

In 1975 my brother was murdered while on his honeymoon. His murderer was in trouble even as a teenager, even being sent to a Reform School. As an adult his arrest record had approximately 9 serious offences. Prior to murdering my brother he was released after serving 4 years for attempted murder.

In 2015 he actually was able to apply for parole. Fortunately our family got wind of it and his parole was denied.

Our system is indeed broken if Ross cannot even apply for parole and murders can.

Also, when I read about all the pedophiles that terrorize our young children that will never be arrested because of who they are, it makes me sick.

  5. american.holdings says:

United States District Courts are the most corrupt courts in the world. State Courts take second place. The judges in federal cases rig the case by writing the jury instructions with the attorneys who are ALL working for the prosecuting judge. The federal trials are smoke and mirrors that the judges and attorneys stack with twelve ass kissing jurors that are going to find for guilt because the prosecuting judges jury instructions leave no room for innocence. After trial the judge will get his probation officer to craft a pre-sentence investigation report that will be lies, misrepresentations and omissions of information and facts that should be in the report. The key move to make is to write an affidavit of objections to each point in the report and file that with the court. No attorney is going to tell you this information and won’t even do it if you hire them. The attorneys are all working for the judges, it’s impossible for you to hire an attorney that does not owe his or her allegiance to the judges. The true nature of the charges against Ross are more like being targeted for competing with the U.S. Government. They are the head criminals in the drug dealing business via the US Army, CIA and other outfits that are engaged in criminal activity. The heavy penalty on Ross is because the government viewed Ross as a competitor that they were not getting a cut of the profits. That is my opinion about the case. Rights violations are standard in US Courts, fraud by the courts and crime is standard as well. It’s a lawless nation that truly has no law and the government has the monopoly on violence and crime. It doesn’t cost the judge anything to violate rights of Citizens, who are you going to tell his business partners the judges and attorneys. The judges are actually the prosecutors in US courts, the government attorney is that an attorney with allegiance to the judges. Show trials in US courts is standard on the menu, it’s the worst court system to ever get control of a nation in a tyrant fashion. That is what you are truly dealing with is tyrants and criminals d/b/a government.

    • generalbottlewasher says:

American holdings, I have a great dream of writing a fiction book someday. The plot goes something like this. 1 ton of refined heroin is transported to Tinker Air force base every 6 to 8 months in cargo planes from Afghanistan. Along with 200 men from local armories specializing in various civil restructuring and engineering companies. The heroin is distributed nation wide by the various command and control officers that rotate in and out of Afghanistan are both weekend and regular Army. Many are local weekenders who work as supervisors and vice presidents at regional food distribution companies like Tyson Foods , J.B.Hunt trucking, WalMart and the like. They have big appetites and greedy ambitions, like their mentors who got wealthy during Clinton’s administration .They have great control over subordinates in their civil jobs and all things military, career wise. The wartime bond in tight and the slightest disloyalty is meet with fatal consequences. The local politician is chairman of the intelligence committee. The junior house representative sets as vice chairman on several key committees and reports to the chairman and has proven his loyalty time and again. He even has regular press statements saying 10 to 12 people over dose in the state each week for the last 3 years. Something should be done. Appropriations are acquired to combat the Physicians who are to blame and Big Pharma law suits are green lighted at the state level. No one looks at Tinker. No one looks at distribution. No one cares. Just a fictional story don’t confuse it with reality.

  6. Richard Ran says:

So the silk road operation smells like a govt run honeypot with Ross Ulbright as what.. a dupe, a patsy or even a digitized Tim McVeigh?

The whole thing just sounds so bizarre and contrived, that it defies belief. From the all too convenient to be true story about a Ron Paul supporter (don’t forget that folks) from Texas, providing a platform for drug trade, ludicrously charged (well not really) with murder on demand, to the beyond absurd legal procedures and sentencing in what could be best described as a “mock” or perhaps even better, a “show trial”.

In the interview (23:55), there’s this awkward moment of “not wanting to add to the concern” when the mother has stated that she’s concerned for her son’s safety, and then mentioning that even the Federal Transfer Centre in Oklahoma City is not safe, for it was the site where Kenneth Michael Trentadue met his untimely end at the hands of federal authorities. Though she seems surprised by the disclosure, the mother must have developed elephant skin over the years, because her response is remarkably, don’t know.. “measured” I’d say. “That’s where Ross is right now, yeah.”

    Kind regs from Amsterdam,
    Richard

    • american.holdings says:

Nothing is safe in the United States. The corruption goes from top to the bottom. The judges can have anyone rubbed out and do. They like to do it in custody because they control the evidence of all murders, make it look like suicide, it’s common in America. The courts of law all closed in the 1960’s here. The Attorney Mob took over and its been show trials ever since they closed the county courts which used to have elected judges that answered to the People. Now all we have is State, Federal and Bureau and Agency Courts of make believe that are operated by characters that are State and Federal Employees pretending to be judges. The Official Government policy in the US is no lives matter, they take a guy like Ross and can practice their medical and scientific experiments in the federal prisons on him and there is nothing to stop them. Where do you think the US Government perfects their torture tactics? It’s the private federal prisons that Judges and Congressmen own for profit or are invested in by straw men to keep the judges name off the front door of the prison. The Attorney Mob viewed Russ as competition to the Catholics in Action or CIA drug running and child trafficking business. Who do you think arranges the child trafficking, it’s State Court Judges in every US State. The State and Judges don’t even see your child as a human or people, they view the Citizens and Children as property of the State and Vatican Government scam that does business all around the world as Roman Catholic Church, a scam operation of globalists that would like even more power over the People via global tax that is taken by a far away government who the taxed would have no recourse. The perverts in the Vatican are tied in with the Attorney Bars and Judges. And yes the federal transfer center in Oklahoma is a federal shit hole intentionally, if Ross is there the US Department of Justice and the Bureau of Prisons are giving Ross diesel therapy to wear him out and keep him from working on his case. The crooked judges can not play on an even table, they would lose a lot if they had to operate legit. So they get the Wardens to cherry pick the prisoners who might be successful on a post conviction appeal with diesel therapy, planes, buses, layovers, planes, buses and on, it’s a long ride and keeps Ross out of contact with his People.

      • wingsuitfreak says:

Your story of murder reminded me of something that happened to an acquaintance of mine once. He was arrested in Volusia County, Florida because Georgia had a clerical error and had not lifted a warrant on him. He had just had a bypass operation a few months before and his doctor told him he needed certain medication and should avoid others. While in jail (a private one owned by the county and is also the only county which does not have their medical examiner employed by the state, but by the county. This should raise some alarms, especially when you look into this craziness even further.) the doctor (who was ordered to be fired the previous year by the state) tried to give him some medication his doctor had said he couldn’t have. This guy, a very nervous type person, tried to explain to him he couldn’t have that medication, but a guard just walked in and began beating him to a pulp. That night, the guards would walk by him (untreated) and laugh at him. The next morning they lead him back to the scene of the crime where they asked him if he wanted treatment. He declined. While the video may be seen on a site called VolusiaExposed.com (run by a former guard who is furious at the goings on at this place), I wish I still had my copies of the statements. They did not match the video in any aspect.
I was going to set up a website for him in which we could truly attack the county, but he decided to trust the local television news, which had suddenly become concerned about poor people being abused by the blackboot cowards. They gave a predictably piss-poor coverage of it, and no follow-up. I am also including another link, which is even more disturbing; it is the link to a site for correction officers. While you won’t be able to comment on it, it is the same kind of ugly stupid barbarity one can find on a bluelivesmatter(not much) site when someone shoots a cop. I think this clearly shows how any justice system serves to create injustice. Enjoy. Or rather, don’t; but you should watch anyway.

P.S. Volusia exposed is an excellent site, by the way. There are many (far too many) stories exposed on this private jail. County owns it. I could go on and on and on, but no need. Thanks AmericanHoldings for reminding me. Jim from the lunatic asylum known as florida.

        • mrbarbecue says:

          Indeed.

I’m from up north, and the crazy stories in the media so often start with “A Florida man…” it’s become a running joke.

    • Richard Ran says:

Afterthought: With Assange and Snowden as possible limited hangout operations and Timothy McVeigh (were is he now?) a Special Forces asset, there’s no ruling out the possibility that – apart from simply being victimized by the Silk Road honeypot – Ross Ulbricht was either stinged or starred in an elaborate psy-op from the get go.

      • mrbarbecue says:

If you compare to say, one of the largest type of agora as Silk Road was that got busted last year, AlphaBay, the person arrested as the main guy didn’t receive something as bad as Ross. They’ve taken out Silk Road 2 too, but that one, you would have needed to be quite an idiot to use, even if it stayed around for a couple years. AlphaBay stayed for about 4 years, I’m not sure of what happened over there, but they had incredible security. So that NSA guy showing up in th e story as Lyn tells it, no surprise, only the NSA can break the kind of security AlphaBay used, or maybe GCHQ etc., as they often just let other countries do their spying and cracking for them.

  7. Mielia says:

As this assumedly stupid kingpin book was mentioned, I wanted to mention the movie that was made about the story around Ross Ulbricht, deep web:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvC9oDlT8mM (trailer).
I’ve just seen it. It seems to make a balanced point. At least Ross’ parents came to word numerous times. (I also thought you could make a glimpse at Derrick Broze (some interviews from James with him here) at one time but I could be wrong^^.)
Anyways. I found the movie itself mentionable, as well as the involvement of Keanu Reeves (as a kind of narrator); also Elijah Wood is mentioned in the screen credits, though I have no clue which role he might have played.
Remembering Reeves in Matrix and Wood speaking about pedophiles in hollywood…

By the way, I like the way you can donate and leave a note to Ross at freeross.org

    • mrbarbecue says:

That’s maddening. Although off-topic, other than corruption wins, almost always. This stuff can be only gotten, and heavily redacted, by a journalist like Jason Leopold, who doesn’t even bother doing a FOIA, but with enough money backing him and his FOIA lawyer friend to have a FOIA lawsuit, which gave us the EmailGate (the largest available Clinton emails, which she tried to obfuscate the release of by ridiculous means such as printing and then scanning them back and giving the scans, of about 100k emails. The momentum this gave Sanders over her, when she couldn’t blame anybody but herself, certainly not the mythical invincible “Russian Hackers”, like later on, because she felt like lying and using the kind of narrative put out by the NIE regarding Iran in 2007 and 2013 that it didn’t have a nuclear weapons program, yes, those 17 Intelligence Agencies put out that NIE, the National Intelligence Estimate, yearly, I think it’s yearly or if not, after some period of time I’m not certain of.

But, you know what, for example, she said that the Coast Guard confirmed “Russian Hacking” (people have to be dumb as fu** not to understand the difference between someone leaking your email by accessing your own computer, and somebody remotely getting into your computer and giving the emails to wikileaks…anyways…that stuff still makes my blood boil, she should just have mentioned Trump’s Russian Oligarch connections, which is a true thing, whether you like him or not). Because the Coast Guard is one of those 17 Intelligence Agencies. Yeah, all 17. Not just 2 opportunists like the CIA and the DNI, which isn’t really an agency, it’s just a new post created by W. on top of all of them, just one guy, Clapper. Clapper said so..must be true, right?

    • mrbarbecue says:

Also, why is the 9/11 Commission Review, known as the “Meese Commission”…is actually wanting those documents out? Ed Meese? Remember when he was the intro of a Video episode of the Corbett Report?

I would think the guy did this just to give those who care a glimpse of hope only to laugh as the doors are closed away, for a while longer anyway. 9/11 secrets will not stay as long and secret as JFK, they made much fewer mistakes with JFK, while it wasn’t long most of the ridiculous reporting of the events on 9/11 was being smashed from the same very day.

  9. HomeRemedySupply says:

    Mr. Corbett,
Thank you so much for this interview and for asking the questions which you did.
From what I gather, Ross Ulbricht was a regular guy. A like-minded guy which I and many others would love to have as a friend.

The whole ordeal is such a heart breaking story.

  10. PeaceFroggs says:

Definitely a punitive sentence, however the justice system will probably commute his sentence (with chance of parole) as soon as the Feds figure out a way to regulate bitcoin, and that appears to be imminent, at least if we look at this and that.

  11. nosoapradio says:

Trying to get a handle on this story: Was Ulbricht double crossed by government agents?

It’s a pity he felt he had to start his libertarian utopia via drugs.

Which in no way removes my compassion for him. A fatal flaw born of a savvy calculation I’d reckon from the top of my ignorance…

Please set me straight on this. Best links for someone super short on time? Perhaps the website mentioned in the interview?

    • nosoapradio says:

I’d only really heard about the bitcoin seized when Silk Road went down:

I remember thinking what a strange mixed message was given about bitcoin when the police turned some of it over to be auctioned off in July…2014?

Now my own 0.01 piece of a bitcoin is worth almost 23 dollars.

I paid no attention to Ross Ulbricht’s story…until now.

    • Octium says:

Everyone who ever paid tax has supported the drug trade.

If you didn’t give your money towards building the roads, how would the drug trade transport it’s goods?

      • nosoapradio says:

        Hi Octium!

Uh, are you saying that because a corrupt, oppressive and eugenistic empire was largely built on the drug trade

that’s it’s perfectly understandable that an idealistic person attempting to build a free and non-oppressive economic system should do the same?

        • Octium says:

I wouldn’t deny the first point about how the empire was built, but no.

I’m saying that just because someone creates a platform that has a general purpose use, does not mean that they support any specific use of that platform, or be able to control it even if they wished to do so.

In the case of the empire I have seen plenty of evidence that it actively promotes drugs and even forces drugs onto people against their will or without their knowledge.

I have not seen the same with silk road.

          • nosoapradio says:

It’s not a question of promoting drugs or not (though it could be argued that because Mr Ulbricht’s first Silk Road product was his own homegrown psychedelic mushrooms that he’s promoting them).

When I say “It’s a pity he began his humanistic project with drugs”

it’s because psychedelic mushrooms carry a strong negative connotation for many people I know,

and so when I try to explain the Ross Ulbricht tragedy, travesty of justice, government corruption and dangerous precedent they won’t be able to get past the fact that he’s a drug producer and dealer and that his humanistic project began with drugs.

So it’s a pity from a PR point of view.

            • Octium says:

Well yes, it does no look so good from a PR point of view.

It would be interesting to know what Ross’s take is on the snippets that have been released as allegedly being from his diary.

They seem to be written in a very retrospective sense. I know people do normally write their diary entries after events have taken place, but they seem to be written more like part of an autobiography. Weird.

              • nosoapradio says:

Yes, so maybe no “shrooms” after all:

“…Dratel attempted to explain how “DPR and Ulbricht cannot be the same person,” arguing all the incriminating files found on Ulbricht’s laptop were planted by a nefarious third party…

…A major portion of of Dratel’s argument was that the mistakes Ulbricht appears to have made are far too rudimentary to be those of a criminal mastermind…

…”Saving thousands of chats onto his computer—does that sound like DPR?” he asked the jury.

“Keeping a journal and saving it on your laptop—a little too convenient.

Does that sound like DPR? Saving PGP keys in a file called ‘keys’—does that sound like DPR?”…”

                https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/78xdva/defense-in-silk-road-trial-lays-out-its-full-alternative-perpetrator-theory

Perhaps there’s an official denial of the authenticity of the alleged “online journal” on his own website?

              • nosoapradio says:

“…I do not and never have advocated the abuse of drugs. I learned from silk road that when you give people freedom you don’t know what they’ll do with it…”
-From a letter written and ostensibly signed by Ross Ulbricht to the judge prior to his sentencing.

he uses the word “abuse” and not “use”: in fact the choice of the word “abuse” suggests pretty clearly that there’s no problem with “use”.

From the page of the Reason.com website referenced on Lyn Ulbricht’s site:

“…founder Ross Ulbricht will spend the rest of his life in jail for creating a revolutionary website that made it easier and safer to buy and sell illegal drugs (along with just about everything else)…”

                https://reason.com/blog/2015/05/31/silk-road-trial-read-ross-ulbrichts-haun

You can also read the signed letter Ross Ulbricht wrote to the judge prior to his sentencing on this site (it’s linked).

It seems to me there were ‘shrooms in the initial project…

-and this, if true, is a truly tragic element in this case…

            • Richard Ran says:

              Hi nosoapradio,

So it’s a pity from a PR point of view.

Great point. Like to add, and I know I’m stating the obvious here, that whether or not it’s a pity of course depends on whose point of view is behind all of this and whose public relations are served with this beyond weird spectacle.
As a psy-op targeting/tainting Ron Paul supporters, it must be great PR, because that’s what is constantly hammered home: Ron Paul, Austrian Economics, Liberty Movement (even over here in Holland). And the cherry on the cake is the drugs angle. Part of Ron Paul’s attraction was his stance on e.g. cannabis. So the characteristics attributed to Ross must be PR gold from a Deep State point of view. Hence the the insane court rulings, continued (“alt”) media attention, and even a film to boot. From that POV it makes perfect sense that his humanistic project began with drugs.

              Cheers from Amsterdam,
              Richard

              • nosoapradio says:

you suggesting he’s a psyop? that had occurred to me…
                but I’m not there yet…

              • Richard Ran says:

Reply to myself here, but its @nosoap,

Me neither, but he sure seems at least used as part of one great psy-op with all of the tell-tale characteristics. He seems meticulously pre-modelled to function as a martyr for a subset of Ron Paul sympathizers, but with enough of a dubious association with drugs to make him unpalatable for a wider audience. Meanwhile it’s free advertising (the film) for the SR Bitcoiny honeypot that just continues like never before and it serves the purpose of smearing Ron Paul supporters who started the actual grassroots revolution about freedom and sound money/economics.

                Cheers from Woodenshoesland,
                Richard

            • mrbarbecue says:

Re: psychedelic psilocybe mushrooms : Even in the US, you’d need to have a whole house growing them to get something like 10 years, it’s actually viewed less seriously than cannabis, in the backwater states that don’t even have medical cannabis yet.

In Canada, you could get caught with 50 garbage bags of mushrooms and be out with no time and just parole….heh.

  12. VoltaicDude says:

This story is so heartening in that Ross and Lyn Ulbricht make me feel good about humanity – not an easy thing to do.

It’s so depressing in that the horror story they’re going through is a direct view into the obscene state of corruption of our society.

I hope Ross remembers during every second of his criminal incarceration how much support and love and respect he has on the outside.

The judges who have been involved with this case should be thoroughly investigated, and should be continued to be tracked throughout the rest of their careers.

The justice system is rife with corrupt judges, and the whole business about the suppression of Democratic Party appointments to judgeships as a generality is a ruse – their judges are just as corrupt (I don’t actually know what party-base backed the judges involved in Ross’s case).

Thanks for making the plain statement that: “Ross is a political prisoner.”

Of course the great hypocrisy is that the threat Ross really posed was to undermine the monopoly the bankster-military-industrial complex has over the drug trade and global trade in general.

It’s Democrats. The Ulbricht’s are not New Yorkers, yet the case was brought all the up to NY because of Chuck Schumer pulling some strings.

In California he would never have gotten that sentence, and over there they got the most human of all courts of appeal, the 9th circuit courts of appeal, and they would likely have reduced anything he had been accused of, maybe even tossed out.

The whole thing about the case being in NY was the first thing that made me be very suspicious of the whole thing from the start.

  13. doublek321 says:

While the drug war is absolutely immoral, I think it might be more “winnable” if somehow a case could be made to the American public how much of their tax dollars are spent per person incarcerated. People might be more likely to care if they see how it hits their bottom line.

    • mrbarbecue says:

More and more people know their taxes almost only go towards negative things. Millitary, which could have no new money coming in from the public for the next 20 years and survive, handsomely. Prisons, prisoners, corrupt law enforcement (to hell with #notallcops), building the electronic panopticon.

One can almost wish for a solar EMP, to stop this madness for a decade, slow things down, pause civilization for a while, and while electricity would be worked on for the next 10 years, the public would know their priorities a lot more. People renounced by their family as persona non grata would end up to be pardoned by their families even, as everyone would stick together to keep warm and barter and grow food…when we actually see the sky nowadays (it’s always goddamn cloudy here..more than it used to be, of course that’s due to the AFB in town and the NATO jet fuel JT-8/JB-8, I forgot the second letter..they’re messing up with the skies and even admitted it, and as soon as they admitted it 3 years ago, we get about 20-25 days of clear skies and during winter, almost never. Wasn’t that way before 2014 I know for sure. I’m somebody who likes to hike. See Jim Lee’s research at climateviewer.com

I didn’t know this could happen, to be literally heartbroken. It shows she is, that’s why I think she is incredibly strong, if my kid, who’s flowing through grade 1 to 9 so far with an 92% average and does a lot of little physics and chemistry experiments by himself, would end up in prison for anything non-violent after later in life growing to be a person with an exceptional mind, which apparently is what would have led him to prison. It says a lot about the mindset of the USA, although they aren’t lucky with that 2nd courts of appeal..that case being transmuted to NY because of Chuck Schumer, the most fake of all fake Democrats and what they are supposed to stand for…he must not be happy that bitcoin is 10k USD per unit right now. Hah, I had 0.45 in my wallet and right now I’m thinking of making my life less dull, and cash some of it, because I think it’s inevitably going to go back down, it always pretty much follows a sine wave when it comes to value.

Anyway, stay strong Lyn, I wouldn’t be able to endure what you endure and fight for, I would likely have died in the following year or so. Fight!

EXCLUSIVE: Mum of drugs ‘kingpin’ of Silk Road pleads to Trump for clemency
    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/exclusive-mum-drugs-kingpin-silk-road-pleads-trump-clemency-060042658.html

    EXCERPT
“I’m very hopeful because President Trump wants to pardon people,” Lyn Ulbricht, 64, from Austin, Texas, said. “It was a frankly reckless idea but [Ross] did it because he was on fire for freedom as a young guy in his mid-20s who believed in privacy and free markets. Ross never intended harm.”

She believes her son’s sentence is unjustly harsh and sees him as a victim of the war on drugs. In an hour-long telephone interview, Yahoo Finance UK heard:

    How Lyn Ulbricht almost died of “broken heart syndrome” when her son was sentenced;
    Why she believes the notorious “fake hit” linked to Silk Road was a set up;
    How Ross is coping in the ‘Alcatraz of the Rockies’;
    The personal toll the entire case has taken on the family;
How Lyn is fighting to have her son’s sentence reduced.

“I can’t let him rot in prison like this,” she said. “I don’t see how I can just go, ‘Hey Ross, sorry bye, I’m going to go off and pursue my bliss’ or whatever, get a hobby. I can’t imagine just leaving him there.”
