The obvious answer to the question “what purpose is .gov’s revelation of pre crime abilities?”… self censuring.
If one believes in such abilities, would they not see their actions as futile gestures? Same as NSA’s spying on all forms of communication, gives small minds pause to consider the consequences of freely expressing opinions.
Truly strange days, 1984 was a long time ago! Yet here we are, trapped in George Orwell’s nightmare.

I think if you will do some honest research you will find that Zyklon B was engineered for fighting body lice which transmitted typhus. Living in Germany I am not legally allowed to say any more. I recommend the film El Gran Tabu.

I can’t prove it, but I’m pretty sure the chemtrails are killing our insects, including our bees.
I’m sure if any of you are older than 30 years of age remember seeing bugs splatter all over the car windshield and grill in the 70’s and 80’s and somehow since the 90’s there is less and less to the point whereas today I can drive on the highway at night for miles and miles and return home with very few bug splatter.

I don’t want to admit it, but it is scary when you put it to the logical test.
You ok, James? You work very hard, you are a deep thinker, the subject matter is dark… you look a bit worn out. Take care of yourself and your family.
I’ve noticed that even when I take a vacation I take myself along….i.e. it’s difficult to take a break from who I am.
Don’t get me wrong. Your work is not suffering. Perhaps you are. Perhaps it is uavoidable. I hope you are able to find many moments to rejoice at the many miraculous things about the place you are so briefly visiting.
Pity there are no appropriate non-religious words to replace “miracle”, “rejoice” etc. Just because there is no god and the PTSB are full of shit doesn’t mean that we aren’t constantly surrounded by miraculous things for which we should rejoice, feel elated and be eternally grateful.
My 13 yr old tells me life is a bowl half filled with delicious yougurt and half filled with shit; my job is to keep the spoon in the yogurt.
I sincerely appreciate the warning signs you instal in my bowl that help me decide where next to put my spoon.
These discussions of suspending manufacture of internal combustion cars remind me of the prescient song by Rush “Red Barchetta”, an anarchist alternative to Big Brother’s joykill for those of us still loving the thrill of driving on the open road.
As a motorcyclist, the idea of self-driving cars scares the crap out of me. Although human drivers spend way too much time grooming, texting and doing other distracting things that prevent them from noticing my bike, an autonomous vehicle that might take me out due to a malfunctioning sensor (or based on a decision tree to spare a a car full of drunken tourists) just seems like a really bad idea. After 20+ years of street riding, I’ve gotten pretty good at anticipating what a given driver will do (and how they might kill me). All bets will be off when machines take over the navigation.
The idea of self-driving vehicles seems to me part reality from practical and social engineering perspectives, and part psyop. I have spoken with someone in the mining industry who argues self-driving mining equipment is significantly cheaper and safer to operate than human operators. In such a controlled environment and where competitiveness and profit margins are paramount, I can see the mining industry moving in this direction rather quickly.
For the citizen though, driving can be an expression of freedom, being able to drive where and when one wants to as long as there is a road to travel on. However, the powers that be want to squash our freedoms and creative spirit. Putting the self-driving car out there in public consciousness is one step in that direction. You can be sure there will be controls on where these cars can drive. Want to travel down this quaint little back road in the coutry? Hell no, you might have some invasive weed seeds on your undercariage that could spread and destroy the natural diversity! Also, because you are not actually in control of the vehicle, the freedom aspect will be lost, and thus the idea of a car itself will no longer be a desireable product. The allure of the car will be lost on each successive generation. Perfect solution for the powers that be that want to keep us out of the rural areas, herd us into cities, and contine to chip away at our freedoms and imaginations.
Difficult to fight this one but personally, I’ve bought cheaper older vehicles, and pay a good mechanic instead to keep it running. Keeps money local. Look at Cuba, they’ve kept their old vehicles running for decades.
