Interview 1072 – Jem Bendell on Money and Society

What is the nature of money? Did it really evolve out of barter, and, if not, why is that myth so prevalent? What theories of money have been proposed in the past and how do they hold up? What monetary alternatives are on the table and how can they be improved? These are the types of questions that will be explored in a new Massive Open Online Course on “Money and Society” being offered by the Institute for Leadership and Sustainability. Today James talks to course co-creator Dr. Jem Bendell about the course, what topics it will cover, and how people can register to take the course (starting August 23, 2015) for free.

This would be interesting since i’m currently trying to start a campaign in my home province to take control of our own money and not have to beg the federal government anymore. Could use some feedback from people to see what you think or what you feel could be done differently, please and my first draft i’ve got saved at this link on indiegogo to start a crowdfunding campaign to try and apply pressure.

I talk to myself all the time so this is not a stretch…although I would love some chatter here from others who are familiar with this course and a sense of what others think of it. After lesson three I am even more convinced that the two course originators are the poster boys for Agenda 21. I find that while they are aware of the perils of our present fiat financial system they are either woefully unaware of the Hegelian hand in where we are and the bigger picture or willfully promoting a life under the dome future. Please someone tell me I have my tinfoil hat on too tight yet again and I am being overly dramatic…..please.
Thanks for the contributions to this discussion, cee2002. I’ll chime in just so you’re not talking to yourself, but I don’t have much to contribute. I’m afraid that preparation for my 9/11/2015 podcastumentary (which I am taking a break from to type this!) is keeping me from the course. I managed to listen to the 2nd lesson but haven’t completed the assignment, seen the forum or attended the webinar. I’d be very interested to hear feedback from anyone else who has done any of those things, though.
Alright, guys, I’ve been kicked out of the course for missing my assignments (as I was a tad preoccupied with producing 9/11 Trillions). Can anyone fill me in on what’s happening?
The MOOC was an interesting experience. My previous comments about the developers of the course being the poster boys for Agenda 21 still stands and although there was a lot of good information shared through the 4 units it was information that most Corbettites are already familiar with. Bill Still’s documentaries were quoted but going a bit deeper into the rabbit hole met with negative reviews for me on more than one submission. It was OK….but just OK and not something I would recommend to others just yet. I hope they continue to wake up and burrow deeper into the manipulation of the money system and if they do and develop some more units around that the course could be worth the time it takes to participate. The best part of it was the interaction with all the other participants and the opportunity to continue to do so with future participants….there are some wonderfully intelligent, awake and aware people out there…..as there are in here. Wish we could all get together in one room and figure out how to unscrew the world.
Interesting feedback on the MOOC cee2002.
I agree of course that the MOOCs, library of things, fablabs, living labs, smart cities, and even the P2P economy all come together within a same NWO project instigated by the same MIT, Berkely, Stanford, Wharton et al super troopers working with obscure thinktanks and various foundations of the Bloomberg, Rockefeller and Gates variety.
…Though it would be nice to have open source knowledge and P2P without ubiquitous so-called “ambient intelligence”…
One of the more Rockefeller sponsored articles I saw (with the Rockefeller logo and everything) had the following title:
The truth about smart cities: ‘In the end, they will destroy democracy’
within the following paragraph towards the end:
“…In truth, competing visions of the smart city are proxies for competing visions of society, and in particular about who holds power in society.

And these smart cities are on the way with their ubiquitous sensors whether we like it or not as thousands of mayors and politicians around the world have been sold on the idea and have allotted considerable sums towards building them and financing new budding businesses and “grassroots” associations to help them do it. The library of things and Fablabs are the mind-prepping bait. Like the iPhone7 is the candy for people’s consensus on voice recognition and ubiquitous siri-style
interaction with machines, living labs will make smart cities the logical next step.
This has been a long, long time in the making…
When DARPA spun the web I suspect they already had the blue prints for the smart city and the bit coin.
Back to a new middle ages within the dawning no-hierarchy and Sustainable Experience Economy paradigm… A new digital Auroville for the new Responsible and Aware citizen with India as its posterchild??
New gadgets and games as the carrot, Climate change and credit crises, the stick.
Mark Zuckerberg was right of course. Privacy had to die in the minds of the average citizen. And so will democracy.
If it ever existed.

We are in a global transition, FAB City is part of that, I like the idea of the medieval cities, protected by the walls, and in which you were living in the same place you were working or producing, I think FAB City could be compared with a high tech medieval city connected to a global network of knowledge produced in other cities.
