Podcast: Play in new window | Download | Embed
You’ve heard that the independent media (i.e. the media that actually challenges the establishment narratives) is full of Russian bots, and you probably know that this is neo-McCarthyist hooey. But did you know that most of the major newswires and online news outlets are already publishing bot-generated content? Well they are. So what does it mean that the establishment fake news is coming from the hand of bots? Find out in this edition of The Corbett Report.

Hi everyone,
if you like to investigate AI generated Text further, I would like to point you to the GPT-2 Model, which has just been released recently. Here is a link to the Blogpost on OpenAI:
https://openai.com/blog/gpt-2-1-5b-release/
Also I like to link to a Video on the Computerphile Channel, where Rob Miles talks about the developments in the GPT-2 Model and is speculating about the reason why it wasn’t released at that point:
https://youtu.be/AJxLtdur5fc
Hope you enjoy.
Thank you James for raising concerns about the solution that we will be presented with.
“English enough sentences.” I like that James. Pardon me if I steal it
for my own use. I do, in part, concur with your concluding remark, “It’s game over for humanity.” I suppose by that you mean it is game over for
a physically secure and predictable life, for most of us.
Yes, I agree.
The death of democracy in the U.S.A. (which took little more than a
decade) coincided with the headlong transition into this Information-based economy, an era dominated by a fresh generation of wire-pullers, sneak
thieves and robber barons. Americans have only two futures ahead – anarchy or despotism. As your video-essays attest, week after week, despotism has the edge. The compounding horror is that the two-choice dilemma simultaneously threatens major populations in Europe, Asia and South America. This will not be an ‘Old World’ – ‘New World’ standoff, but rather a a globe-girdling archipelago of despotic states. The Chinese currently harvest organs from Falun Gung dissidents. In the near future the British will harvest organs from “White Supremacists” who mock their social “Betters”. Pick a country. Paste on a label describing something
truly beastly.
Here in Canada we should have been somewhat safe from the dystopian nightmare that is rolling in like an impenetrable fog, but our Royal Corps of Office Holders have not taken a single step in the direction of protecting us.
Isn’t it strange, that you and I were born in an era when “Deep Thinkers”
were mocked by the man on the street. Now it is the “Clear Thinkers” who
are loathed and ridiculed. Every Pub needs a dart board. Duck!
Ron Jack in B.C.
“The death of democracy in the U.S.A. (which took little more than a
decade)”
I hope this was meant as irony.
Looks to me they finished staged release and final model is out.
And the reason for release is: “…to facilitate detection of outputs of GPT-2 models.”
Interesting is what they say who is potential mis-user (the same link):
“Our partners at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies’ Center on Terrorism, Extremism, and Counterterrorism (CTEC) found that extremist groups can use GPT-2 for misuse, specifically by fine-tuning GPT-2 models on four ideological positions: white supremacy, Marxism, jihadist Islamism, and anarchism. ”
Like the real bad actors don’t possess better models already. The approach GPT-2 is using is not something fundamentally new in AI.
Just another wax offered up for the fax. Fax wax. This message offered up by predictive text by Google.
Now the corrected text( offered up by a real person). { Just another Vax offered up for the facts. Fax -Vax }
The predictive text won’t even let you type wax, er… vax. I see what you mean JC. AI control grid. Damn them!
Thank you for the tocsin, I’ve been immunized adequately. So good to be waxinated against such disease.
generalbottlewasher says: “Thank you for the tocsin….”
Definition of tocsin.
1 : an alarm bell or the ringing of it. 2 : a warning signal.
The word TOSCIN is seen on November 7th’s Interview 1493 – New World Next Week with James Evan Pilato when talking about the National I.D. card.

You know…back in the days when I used to have long arguments online(10 years ago..?) I actually think I came across AI bots. I thought at the time ‘they’ were maybe using the internet to train AI chatbots… a few times you’d come across accounts that would act weird kinda like the ‘Liza’ chat AI, now maybe English just wasn’t the users 1st language.
I remember vaguely wondering if one day they would use AI’s to fill out comments sections but didn’t think too much about it back then.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELIZA
meh.. could also just be people running five conversations at the same time…
The fact that those with power feel the NEED to do all this butt-covering indicates that something bad is going to happen since few actually care about whats going on as long as their personal lives are comfortable.
Duck, the link was interesting and I could not agree more. Weizenbaum’ s work had to be valued as a tool for those who needed to cover their butts. The “… allowed for a deceptivly intelligent response that deceived many individuals…” The important part, a promising tool of deception by those willing to use it on those, too comfortable, to suspect a thing nor do anything about it.
The control grid for ” butt covering” goes many layers deep. Once you break down a barrier there seems to be another and another and …on and on.
GeneralBottleWasher
The odd thing now I think about it is how many REAL humans just pattern match conversation- to the point that they answer questions that they imagined were asked or hear something you never said…. makes me wonder if I do it and fly on auto pilot too.
Your so right with ‘Once you break down a barrier there seems to be another and another and …on and on…’ but the danger is that we can loose all trust in logic/history/ or even the ability to truly know stuff- post modern post reality thinking is the most dangerous weapon they use.
Duck, guilty as charged. Patterns seem to be how we interpret the world around us. Until we fully understand we probably try to ” match ” the patterns we can’t fully comprehend.
Trying to understand ‘ meme’ for instance. I don’t remember ever having seen nor heard this word in use until 2017 or so.
I can’t ever remember seeing it in print. It seems to have appeared from nowhere and now its importance forces itself on our existence. That is troubling to explain why it is, what it is and from when , where, and who delivered it into existence. What does it mean to meme?
Doesn’t seem to be in spell check even. Anybody?
1st time I HEARD the word meme was (I think) in Star Trek Voyager when there was a false memmory that kept spreading from person to person…. It may have come up in ‘the selfish gene’ but I’m not sure… I know it came up in the 1992 science fiction ‘snowCrash’ which is actually an interesting portrayal- it had a ton of ideas about how people acted on instinct before language allowed them to actually be ‘awake’ or fully conscious… it had a ton of ideas on language- including some stuff thats kinda like an Uber version of NLP (which is often likened to magic learning a 2nd language well provides some protection)and it used the idea of a meme like a gene for behavior- and there was a ‘meme virus’ which was used to control people but it could be spread either over their version of the internet (which was cooler then it turned out…) or by hearing it … or by BLOOD infection.
Actually, thanks for making me remember- it was kinda a weird book, alchemical or hermetic thinking (they were big on memory palaces and stuff like that) I guess… only thing was the writing style was really irritating seeing as it was originally done as stage directions for a planned CGI movie and he was to lazy to fix it properly.
I may have to dig it out and re read
Some sci fi discussion of the book…

Ahh… yes, revolting Dawkins popularized the idea https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memetics
What’s to prevent the powers that shouldn’t be from “replacing” James Corbett and the Corbett Report website with a deep fake that looks and sounds exactly like the real one? With videos by James Corbett that would certainly look and act like James Corbett, and articles that would read like James Corbett would write them?
By the way, there was a video I saw on the Corbett Report in which Broc West appeared and suspiciously didn’t look real, but instead looked “generated” (eyebrow movements in particular). Does anybody remember the video I am referring to?
I believe this might be the video
https://www.corbettreport.com/interview-1224-the-asia-pacific-perspective-with-broc-west/
Broc West noticeably had some glitches in his recording. Several instances of his words and motions being skipped. I’m not well verse in deep fake technology but I think Broc’s uncanny recording had more to do with his camera. He does a lot of quick sudden motions and not every camera can properly record it.
Won Fat
lol… good argument for forming local groups of friends, thats reminiscent of the (somewhat more violent) system of reading groups the great author Dennis Wheatly suggested as a cure for tyranny.
If most people have three trustworthy buds you really dont NEED to go to the murderous extent Wheatly suggests because the people doing bad things are fundamentally bullies who want easy prey.
Here, found something he wrote
http://www.denniswheatley.info/sams_books/lettertoposterity.htm
Sorry to disappoint you Won Fat but I can confirm that that was indeed the real me, in the flesh, with zero “generated” eyebrow movements.
A dying computer combined with a poor Australian internet connection is the reason that recording of me came out the way it did.
Actually, I’m not disappointed. Thanks for your response.
I tried to look for the video at first, and considered that is was the one flammable suggested. However, It didn’t look as bad as I remembered. I considered that maybe it was my internet connection in the first place, and then felt rather stupid for suggesting that it looked “generated”. I felt less stupid after flammable identified that same video, and provided some commentary.
Concerning my first paragraph, if such a “switch” was to take place, I assume that after a period of several episodes (to allow for a smooth transition, of course) that eventually James’ replacement would say something to let the cat out of the bag, and most of us would recognize it.
Thanks again.
I don’t know what kind of computer generating capabilities that you two actually have, but…
It seems like you might like to try it sometime as a gag, or simply to see if you could get away with it (which would be totally devious).
Considering that James provides sources in the show notes and regularly urges viewers to check the sources and do their own follow-up research — rather than blindly listening to everything he says — it shouldn’t matter if they attempted to ‘replace’ James with a deep fake. Additionally, if they did attempt such a thing, nearly every Corbett Report viewer would know it based on the content (what is being said and what is being linked to).
There is an Authority that is not IN the forms of what is being presented, asserted or depicted nor logical extensions of already accepted beliefs. Listen in the Heart. Feel for a resonance that you can wholly stand in or step from in living now – and stay listening as the perspective changes – so as not to lock into yesterday’s insight, today.
When all is said and done, thought about, investigated or considered – listen in the Heart.
This Authority is recognised as truth BECAUSE it is not coercive upon you – but is written on your Heart.
The overriding or usurping of the heart is the mind of division and deceit – not that the mind cannot be a faithful servant – but the image, model or name of a thing is not the truth that it represents and so don’t take images of the mind as reality Itself – and subject to them.
As the un-Sanity of a mind divided against itself brings on its own compression and perhaps re-alignment or perhaps densification of a re-dedication to the destructive as false and depleting source of ‘sustainability’ – the compression illuminates the nature of just such a choice – which in our Right Mind – is no choice at all, for Life knows itself truly moved. But in our ‘wrong-mindedness’ all choices are framed to the same outcome of no real choice at all – but only seeming relative or arbitrary merits assigned to a choice of evils – or what colour toilet-paper to buy.
The bit about AI robot newsreaders reminds me of an article I read recently. They will be making a Vietnam war movie soon starring……….James Dean.
As far as I know it’s not a comedy, but serious. He will be deep fake re-animated. In a full length feature film. That’s quite a leap.
Who knows what the finished product will look like. I won’t watch such a Frankenstein’s monster morbidity. Maybe the trailer, for educational purposes.
So what do we suppose is going on here? Predictive programming? Or a reference point to be exploited in the future to debunk true stories, which JC brought up in this podcast. Considering the deep state’s influence in the film
industry, I can’t see this as a random, director vanity project, but something calculated.
And speaking of movies, I have another recommend for anyone who might be interested.
The Collector (1965) starring Terence Stamp. Quite a film. Creepy, maybe a bit disturbing, but not in the way of the film discussed above.
I saw that movie years ago… it was really good.
I recall thinking that he wouldn’t have gone to the dark obsessive side had he had to work, but the money that gave him leisure allowed him to delve where he shouldn’t have. Kinda like what the ultra rich might get up without normal human limitations on their appetites ?
Funny because science is also a product of the leisured class- i guess it just lets out whats inside
James Dean actually died about a decade before the Vietnam War even happened LOL
9:02 was a beautiful moment.
James, I could not stop laughing at the level of sarcasm you applied.
Beyond that, this is quite the topic. I can’t wait until I engage my father in law in another “discussion” and he goes ahead and claims the source I cite is not verified by whatever Darpa created fact checker.
Won’t that be fun.
On the bright side this could backfire badly if the “fake news” is still available. Those in the know might see the appellation as “must read”.
Domo arigato Mr. Corbotto
No real human could have the abilities & work ethic you have.
I’d love to watch Ryan Christian in a discussion with Earnest Hancock. I’m making fun of them a bit, but they are good guys.
Ryan brings up Newsguard, which I read about a while ago. He’s right. It’s terrifying. So is First Draft, which I was shocked to find being praised on the Internet Archive blog, where it was announced that Internet Archive was partnering with First Draft. Just type First Draft into the search field on the site and it will return.
When James suggested avoiding Scribd and using Internet Archive, that’s what I did. I had never used either service before but it seemed like a great tool. I can’t remember why I was looking around on the site (a good idea anyway), but I was and that’s when I found this. James: Do you know about Internet Archive’s collaboration with Google’s First Draft Coalition?
The late Robert Parry talks about First Draft: https://consortiumnews.com/2016/11/18/what-to-do-about-fake-news/
Dear James please read once and take in:
“…the true object of propaganda is neither to convince nor even to persuade, but to produce a uniform pattern of public utterance in which the first trace of unorthodox thought immediately reveals itself as a jarring dissonance.†~ Alan Bullock
So let irrational and crazy narratives be recognised as PART OF THE BAIT and not a flaw that makes you seem smarter for seeing through.
Sowing suspicion is itself a ‘cyberwar tactic’ for then people start to look for or see others in terms of ‘troll’ or ‘bot’. Thus even propagating the IDEA of Russian bots – is in itself an inflatable bot. (Reference to the deployment of inflatable artillery, tanks etc as part of war by deceit).
Look rather at what the effects are – and what is IN the mind of the one who would literally cast it out (read in terms of scripting narrative drama rather than throwing an object.
BUT note that projecting, casting and propagating are all of the same root. What is the assertion seeking to cast out or in modern parlance – outsource?
As for the headline – robots are already scripting and delivering fake or substitute communications. For one, the rules or algorithms stipulate what can and cannot be said, along with the demeanour of those who are employed to say it. Humans are willingly consenting to being robotified, zombiefied or tellytubbied, as a limiting of consciousness that does indeed run as a bot-net to a ‘controller class’ who jealously guard their right to control as their definition of survival – but they present it (cast it) as seeking our sustainability in the light of our extinction. As an underclass of energy or food source, we have some value but only for what can be marketised or weaponised – because ‘control-metality’ has exchanged real relationships for rules and check boxes upon which to run automatically.
Insofar as we also join in sleepwalking under illusions of such control we are facing extinction or extreme degradation – but not in or as a result of any of the narratives being trolled out as cover story, diversion or leverage to institute a much tighter global control over a much more systemic and global Internment of Things – enforced to Scare-cities or Smart Camps.
The control-mind contracts, limits and divides – but the heart of a shared willingness finds ways to grow the heart (true value) under compressed circumstances. Part of which is recognising and releasing conflict – which brings with it both death and taxes.
Death while alive is sleepwalking in a substitution for life – as if it is real and real relationship and joy in life is threat. Another term for this is the golem – farming a bot-net population of golems is framing them in a way that they choose it. On the other side then, is the demand for ‘unconsciousness’ as protection from a greater sense of fear, conflict and pain of loss.
All who take a personal moral ‘side’ are casting themselves in a lack of integrity under the pretext of gaining it from a perceived lack in others. So I am saying ‘clear up your room – or if you prefer, the Temple – first – else you think you are addressing something you have ‘cast out’ onto your world – OUT THERE. But it will never be resolved or released by taking it out on others.
Thanks for witnessing for an integrity of wholeness from which division can be left like a baited hook untaken.
The “uniform pattern of public utterance” is important, as is the uniform patterning of local, community and even individual recognition and acknowledgment, as shown in the example of high school sports coverage. The power and reach (not to mention cost-effectiveness) of such AI-driven granularity is chilling. To an unprecedented degree, it can promote exclusive loyalty and trust among the populace, advancing the centralization of control via “hearts-and-minds.”
It’s ironic that all the comments on this article – and indeed on ALL articles on the Corbett Report – will be fed into this AI Fake News Detection Bot for further tweaking of the AI algorithms. And not just this alternative site, all of them.
AI = computer code, nothing more, nothing less (but very smart code, no question about that).
AI is not a “thing”, as in saying “The AI” or “An AI”, which is mentioned so often.
The term AI is only used to indicate what future use it is being developed for, and that is to wire the AI code directly to the human brain, and who knows what else…
IMO, Mr Orwell’s “1984” wasn’t a novel at all, it is a blueprint, a framework for the control of humanity, told by an insider. Whistle-blower if you like.
The Trojan Trump (s)election was all about the attacks on – and elimination of – the true alt media. This is why the alt media was exploited before, during and after his (s)election. It amazes me that there are still folks out there that defend this swamp creature.
I like to think that the fake news anchor started in earnest with the tele-prompter. You just get some pretty beach bimbo with a pretty voice to sit in front of the “news” camera blindly regurgitating whatever this tele-prompter flashes up on the screen. No questions asked, and the questions that are being asked are pre-submitted, pre-approved and rehearsed, answer always at the ready conformant with the desired narrative.
Fake news indeed.

It’s right in your face where this is headed.
I was very taken with Elliot Aronson’s “The Social Animal,” way back. (Which is how I learned about many things, including cognitive dissonance. We do not, however, agree on the origin of humankind.) So when I saw a new book by him (also a long time ago), coauthored with Anthony Pratkanis, I had to have it. It was okay. I probably read it at a time, though, when I could not benefit from it fully. I was very young and I had only begun to be politicized.
An interesting few tidbits from pages 8 & 9 of “Age Of Propaganda – The Everyday Use And Abuse Of Propaganda” follow:
=== =
The forms of persuasion that have come to dominate our twentieth century lifestyle are much different from those seen in any other age of persuasion – much different from those experienced by colonial Americans. For this reason, we use the term propaganda to refer to the mass persuasion techniques that have come to characterize our post-industrial society. The word propaganda is of a relatively recent origin. The first documented use of the term occurred in 1622, when Pope Gregory XV established the Sacra Congregatio de Propaganda Fide. At the time, the Roman Catholic Church was engaged in mostly unsuccessful holy wars to reestablish the faith by force of arms. Pope Gregory realized that this was a losing effort and established the papal Propaganda as a means of coordinating efforts to bring men and women to the “voluntary” acceptance of church doctrines. The word propaganda thus took on a negative meaning in Protestant countries but a positive connotation (similar to education or preaching) in Catholic areas.
= ===
Or “Propaganda” by Edward Bernays, released in 1928. The introduction of the book also includes your reference to the Catholic church using the term in the 17th century.
Bernays, uncle of Sigismund Schlomo Freud.
Good ‘ol Edward Bernays eh. May he rot in pieces.
Only for the record:
Bernays was Freud’s nephew, not uncle.
According to Wikipedia:
“Bernays was a “double nephew” of Viennese psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud—by virtue of his mother, Freud’s sister, and of his father’s sister, Martha Bernays Freud, who married Sigmund.”
For the record, but not that it really matters.
According to various sources – including the trustworthy Wikipedia – Sigismund Schlomo Freud (sorry, just can’t help myself but to use his birth name, it’s just so telling!) was Bernays’ uncle.
Seems different sources say different things with even Wikipedia calling them uncle and nephew on the same page!
Geni lists them as uncles as do other sources.
You are right – it probably doesn’t matter but I always liked the idea that Bernays was the nephew.
I always picture Freud walking with his “little” nephew in the parks of Vienna, happily reporting his newest theories – and the little shit eagerly taking notes, already picturing how he could profit from it…
This images doesn’t really work when Bernays is the uncle. 😉
And stick to your idea and ignore my silly comment.
I need to work out the difference between a nephew and an uncle!
Thank you for your help with that, appreciated.
Your “mental picture” helped.
🙂
This rather brilliant Medium article (Deepfakes Paranoia Considered Pointless) seems to properly characterize the truly menacing fear of the fear-mongers themeslves, viz: it seems implicit in the availability of technology like Deepfakes that the establishment will lose their monopoly over the creation and dissemination of fakery.
What I see here with the Bot generated Fake News is a sense of “The Truth Doesn’t Matter” being instilled in the population.
It seems to me that, Virtual Reality, Video Games, and now, Bot generated Fake News, is being used as a Means to disillusion the masses from knowing Real from Fake, and thus, Truth from Lies.
As James has brought to light in many of his Documentaries (I just watched the WWI series for a 3rd time), masses of people have been made into mercenaries for the benefit of evil elites through the use of Lies, Deceit, and False Flag events. Those who do not know the Truth will be made into pawns for the devil.
To quote a former CIA Director “We will know that we are successful when everything the American people believe is a Lie”.
Dan
PS Perhaps we can begin to see why JFK wanted to smash the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter the pieces to the wind. And yes, they did get him before he could.
Isn’t this wonderful?:
“American robots lose jobs to Asian robots as Adidas shifts manufacturing”
https://nypost.com/2019/11/11/american-robots-lose-jobs-to-asian-robots-as-adidas-shifts-manufacturing/
By Reuters
November 11, 2019
Adidas plans to close high-tech “robot†factories in Germany and the United States that it launched to bring production closer to customers, saying Monday that deploying some of the technology in Asia would be “more economic and flexible.â€
The Adidas factories were part of a drive to meet demand for faster delivery of new styles to its major markets and to counter rising wages in Asia and higher shipping costs. It originally planned a global network of similar factories.
The German sportswear company did not give details on why it was closing the facilities, which have proved expensive and where the technology has been difficult to extend to different products.
[snip]
I gotta chuckle. I can hear the robots complaining now: “They are taking our jobs!”
“We want a Robot Union. When do we want it? NOW!”.
Repeat.

This accusation of « Russian bot »Â
betrays a binary way of thinking
that is reminiscent of the way machines
process information :0 or 1,autobot or decepticon.
Rank, pathetic cold war rhetoric.
As to bots invading the news,
or automation of the news cycle,
the scary part is the dumbing down :
it’s like bringing down the level of literacy to make
bot generated texts or translations appear acceptable
when they are really mediocre and faulty.
Already people are regarding google translations as standard
when they are far from being accurate, if not downright nonsense,
but they go along with it provided they can extract at least a bit
of meaning from the text, so far so good, and they don’t bother to look for
another source. As to Newsguard, if it is still possible to access news sites they regard as untrustworthy or unreliable, well, thanks for the list! But they’ll probably come up with a censorship solution to buttress their propaganda.
Great point: Responsibility is still to the user/reader/viewer who has a part to play in this not just as receiver or blank slate but as a critically thinking individual, which is gonna be difficult if you are made to know only of a couple of websites some newsgate or whatever has planted in your mind as being the only ones worth visiting. No wonder newsgate is already positioning themselves as a kind of antivirus provider for the state to whom they will no doubt sell a whole package of gatekeeping, mindcleaning solutions in the near future.
