01/26/201321 Comments

While statists across America (and around the world) were celebrating the inauguration of Obama last weekend, anti-statists celebrated a festive occasion of their own: the 205th birthday of Lysander Spooner. Join us this week on The Corbett Report as we explore the life, works, and thought of Lysander Spooner, lawyer, entrepreneur, Deist, abolitionist, freethinker, and one of the giants of the American anarchist tradition.

    Corbett,
Thanks for running this Lysander Spooner video again!
Insightful. I especially enjoyed his Post Office entrepreneurial gig.
The perspective about the Constitution / slavery was wonderful.
History has some great lessons for present time.

  2. Fact Checker says:

This is the key relevant passage of No Treason for the present moment:
“If he resists..call upon the bystanders to help you. (Doubtless some of them will prove to be members of our band.)”
The members of the band are all now identifiable by their oh-so-symbolically appropriate masks.
The Maskies are all eager henchmen of the great Highwayman, and they are legion…

  3. Alchemist says:

The way his mail company ended is in the future for Bitcoin… only Bitcoin won’t be laughing. And something like his childhood contract will be in the future for orphans of “Covid”.

However, for me, nothing appears. Nor when use the search box using fewer and less search terms for it.

  5. I Shot Santa says:

I don’t keep up with the different types of anarchy, but it’s nice to know that I share the same belief in the individual as this giant of a man. For if the rights of the individual aren’t of supreme importance, then no one has any rights at all. Just saying.

  6. wylie1 says:

What L.Spooner didn’t realize when going into the mail delivery biz was that govt (and many large corporations) are willing to take a loss …or other underhanded tactics, to put him out of biz. “May the best competitor win” is not limited to the best product or service but whatever someone is willing to do; thinking they are likely to get away with it, including sending minions or dupes out to do things they may not get away with.

Learned from history, those seriously thinking about a particular biz, have to consider such things.
    — Despite the nonsensical spin commentary, did L.Spooner “win”? Not at all, everyone else did, at his expense and grief. Much the same for those who have fought and won against detrimental corporate-govt projects, who had little to gain from it themselves.

Regardless of Spooner or morals or rights, the strength is with those willing to gather, organize, and act. If your group is large enough, there is very little to stop you. At present, those willing are the Marxists.
    — If you don’t gather to stop them, to prevent any type of govt from dominating you and your life, you will get what you don’t want, whether you deserve it or not; as will your descendants you claim to care about, but don’t really or you would be gathering.

    • I Shot Santa says:

If you aren’t willing to die for it, you don’t deserve it. But it doesn’t require large groups working together. Remember how the state used to scare people with stories of small independent cells? Nazis even started to use that method in the US in WW2. The FBI bungled it when one of the sabatours tried to warn them. Hilarious story. Newsflash! FBI has always been a joke.

      • wylie1 says:

I keep forgetting to use an alternative to the word “you” as this was/is generic. Posted prior to reading others comments.

I understand your sentiment but disagree about “deserve”. So then a woman nursing her kids or old folks (or anyone who worked for or to maintain something) don’t deserve to be left alone in peace and only deserve to keep whatever they have unless willing to die for it? And so if they are severely outmatched and decide to walk away to live rather than stay and keep and die, not really keeping it; the reality of what may happen and “deserve” seem far apart.

“Nazi” or “jihadi” or whomever “small cells” are part of a larger group. I’ve written prior that it would be great to have lots of “groups”, call them small cells or whatever you want, working together towards the same goal of incrementally eliminating most of govt … among many other details.
        — As a practical matter that is how things would have to happen anyway, if gathering physically and likely so in the internet realm; peer to peer network being much harder to stop than centrally operated.
        — People, for good and no good reason, can find things to be unhappy about with any particular group. Some, if not most, as an excuse to do nothing. Might as well eliminate that excuse from the start with it being welcome to have as many small groups/cells as possible.

Let me know how any fully independent small cell prevents bloodshed. The very thing that could easily be prevented IF people would gather into whatever size group is convenient for those gathering in that area, in contact with each other enough to converge upon the courts and govt officials when necessary; as well as using that horrid thing called voting as a tool in our favor, until there is nothing much left of govt to vote on.

        • I Shot Santa says:

You think blood is preventable. That time has long since past. And yes, if you’re not willing to die for liberty, then you deserve what you get. And small cells don’t have to be connected. Or have common goals. Just balls.

          • wylie1 says:

Maybe. Maybe not. I’ve heard the same mentality many times regarding many things that have been averted, usually as an excuse to not have to do that thing which would avert it. Didn’t say you, just that has been my experience.

The bluster and bravado of dying for liberty rings hollow when that necessity could still be easily averted, IF people actually had some balls to do the little easy bit necessary. Many seem more willing to kill those who become hungry than those causing all the rotten conditions to begin with.

This is the second or third? time we will disagree. Good luck to you.

            • I Shot Santa says:

Look around. Everyone wearing a mask proves that blood will be shed. All of you who are too afraid to see also ensure it. The powers that cower don’t even care to hide anymore, as they don’t have to anymore. For they know people are too stupid and cowardly to do anything. We’re already in open warfare. You’re just too much of a coward to address it. Which is a piss poor survival strategy. You are free to your opinion; but not from its consequences. I don’t care about disagreements. But if you are too weak to stand and face reality, or fight for your own life; then why would anyone else waste their time or effort? Or do you think all this will just majically go away just by wishing? Please enlighten us as to how you think this can possibly end without blood.

              • wylie1 says:

It would seem that you think you know the hearts and minds of all you see (and read); …because it aids justifications for what you don’t want to do, reality be damned. Not even close regarding me.
                You only fool yourself.

You certainly will deserve what you get. It may just be a little later than the first to go. The few, the willing, will get it whether we deserve it or not, due to so many unwilling.

I’ve described the how of the non wishful thinking of it all before. Some to you and more before you arrived on here. Why would I desire to repeat yet again, while it seems your only purpose is to avoid doing anything but puff your ego with contempt for and condemning others.

Your method is so easy, let me give it go:
You and those like you guarantee bloodshed because of what you refuse to do now. Thus guaranteeing your own demise; maybe a bit later is all. If you don’t nip it in the bud while you can, Everyone looses, including you. A very unwise strategy.

Why must you wait to get the “small cell” active?
The ONLY reason the weasels are still in office allowing all the rotten things to happen, is because people refuse to get their small cells going and growing and actively recalling all the Marxists in power. Finding (or replacing) judges to nix the illegal dictates of governors or whatever officials. To claim the time for that is over has NO basis other than the desire not to have to do anything but tend to yourself. That is the reality. — Same as the many before you who refused, needing to claim it a waste of time to justify themselves, in prior situations.

To your type, most Everything would have been a waste of time and past time, until it succeeded.

            • I Shot Santa says:

This is the last time we disagree. You go ahead and believe in the mask beasts. Trust them. With your life. Be a good little fool. And don’t forget to take your vaccine. I don’t care. And that you can take the bank.

              • wylie1 says:

I have no need nor desire to trust anyone. It isn’t necessary for their simple role. Nor would I undertake anything if it did; learned first hand with the scars on my back from those “superior” in their “know better” ignorance, who only blunted their knifes … then later asked me to return. It seems those muddled in their “situation” have a hard time thinking of much else, let alone a way out, when it is both the big bad govt and corporations coming down on you. No doubt some would have just flipped them the bird; but that would have been of no benefit to either.

Unfortunately you seem so irritated with “them” and/or me so much you cannot think outside it.
                — When you judge others (discernment tainted with ego emotion, by default telling yourself you are better because you wouldn’t be like that) you are also judging yourself. Judging is a distraction to hide the truth about yourself that you don’t want to see. That has been known for thousands of years.

However, I do know that a number of mask wearers, wear them out of convenience of going where they want to go without a hassle, rather than being fooled.

Time will tell whether I will have to do the same or will be able to find stores/biz that are not concerned about fines and permit cancellations from the governor’s thug agency of choice, for violating “all businesses must require their employees and customers to wear masks” decrees. If so, I will endeavor to find a Gates or Soros hard plastic Halloween mask.

It is always a delight! (cough cough)
I have little doubt you will be vaccinated long before me.

              • wylie1 says:

Then and now, those who never have done, were so sure of their oh so valuable expert opinions. To the point they almost made what they didn’t want, a self fulfilling prophesy. It is so easy to pick up the ego and venom, why not try something a bit more difficult.

            • I Shot Santa says:

              Fuck you.
