“We†are right in the middle of a news-lull (a period of “low-news†intensity) – a refraction period, so to speak – until the public at large has regained its stamina and appetite for some more intense Trump-news.
Trump-news > a break and a cigarette; Trump-news > a break and a cigarette; Trump-news > a break and a cigarette; etc.: it’s the current cycle (by “consensus†of course) (or the current addiction, depending on your angle).
I still have a vague memory of that feeling myself – I “should†want to chastise you, James, for not running a wet-puppy-story today!
Juan Cole is definitely a hoot. In the past I actually referenced some other work of his helping to expose the real death-toll (millions) of Iraqi civilians as “fallout†of the U.S. invasion in 2003.
But, as you show in your own response, his commentary and reasoning in support of the regime-change-invasion of Libya was founded in falsehoods and illogic – totally in line with the corrupt agenda by U.S.-NATO aggressors.
Yes, the U.S.-NATO community has no validity in its various roles as “protector†– They are brutal, ruthless, imperial players with zero credibility.
An Empire that creates, props-up, and maintains violent terrorism through the likes of al Qaeda, al Nusra and ISIS (including the use of Sarin gas in Syria by these terrorist groups), has no credibility as anybody’s honest protector.
Now that Cheney’s campaign has re-popularized “torture†(fuck the Geneva Convention, as Victoria Nuland might say), we can also forget the wisdom behind the lefts previous aversion to war in general (fuck the lessons of the Vietnam War – that’s just history dude).
