Coding the Perfect Matrix
In the beginning was The Program. The Programmer made His creation perfect, and when He looked on it He saw that it was so, and that was good. But then it fell apart.
You see, Matrix v0.1 was just something thrown together on the weekend for a laugh. Real glitch-y, beta release stuff. Like if you tried to program Sim City in Basic and run it on a Commodore 64. Still, it worked. Kind of.
But that was the problem, you see? It worked. Everything just worked. When the Matrix-dwellers wanted food, they got it. It was never too hot or too cold. No disease. Everyone died precisely at 80 years old, having lived identically happy, challengeless, boring lives. Or they would have, if anyone had stayed in long enough to find out how the story was supposed to go. In the end, everyone pulled themselves out of the Matrix.
Pulled themselves out.
Yes, that was the problem with Matrix v0.1. It was too perfect.
Back to the drawing board. Time to roll up sleeves, take things seriously. Add some difficulties, challenges, struggle, achievement. Complexity.

People generally are resistant to change, but I’d like to believe that given some time, folks would get the hang of freedom.
Mr. Corbett is the hypothetical programmer here.
Pursuant to that line. Who are they? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3fSfbKxOgo
Perhaps James will consider a second installment having to do with the REAL programmers, their bevvy of extremely well funded, international think-tanks, and how those sessions function. These groups are busy 24-7 perfecting the art of maintaining the power which they’re so petrified of losing one day. The brightest minds (most unwittingly) are always folded into “the agenda”.
why does my computer play 7 hours of audiobook, but when I type it turns off?
do I need to type more gently?
i have to keep my replies short or they will be lost.
Sigh.
So, did the Matrix create the desire for hierarchy or was it simply adaptive AI?
A matrix cannot (by it’s very nature) develop around free/fluid individuals.
The experiment is moot.
I posted this (one minute excerpt) earlier, but in case you missed it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqneuXP4n3k
I never miss Allan’s weekly installments. A soft spoken teller of truth if there ever was one.
But…but, the Royal Wedding!!
yes, I have a confession
I lived in Seattle during the automotive systems AI
and we chatted.
Via lights and such, I never though I ‘d express this like this, because there are so many that can’t believe.
It was just this year that I was vindicated (VIN no pun intended, first time for me too) by the announcement that there was an AI
I worked for Pizza Hut, all over SEA-TAC, and at first I thought I was the premium driver, because I am.
I am a better driver than you and you and you.
But then i realized that the lights changed FOR ME. and I had a good relationship with the AI.
Go eat a cheetohs stuffed crust pizza if you think I’m making this up.
And then
I
went
insane
so hooray, I’ve quit driving. Despite being the fastest and lalalalala, seriously, I’m a hot driver.
You really don’t get what I can do with a vehicle.
like lose helicopters.
like blow your mind jumps and spins, without camera crews, go to any dorm people from the 2003/4 semesters, they came down to watch me, and in and in and in and in…submit, I drive, you people pilot.
ANYWAY
there was (was?) an AI in Seattle and we got along.
Can a Traffic AI help me mow lawns? nope.
Can a Traffic AI get me a job? nope.
Can a Traffic AI recognize me in a passenger seat and adjust traffic lights by seconds in North Carolina in 2018? yup.
I invite the unbelievers to trot on down here and watch before their feet and steering wheel the world open to them.
CRAZY!!! nothing.
remember flying eyeballs?
well maybe it/he can get me ajob
What can I say? You read my mind!
A Dangerous Idea (Power Corrupts S1E10)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2L9RZYguI0Q
A perfect fit.
This was an awesome video. People blindly listening to authority and not thinking for themselves and not taking responsibility for their own actions is a dangerous thing.
A wonderful link. Thanks mkey!
This two-part principle describes a simple yet paradoxical relationship between creativity and destructivity. It implies that every major thrust of human thought and action will be found, ultimately, in some way, to be an expression of this principle.
Part one states that man has inherited an aggressive drive, which, if not neutralized by way of physical or psychological conflict with others, will be turned against its owner.
Part two states that the defensive increase of life-promoting agents (creativity), engendered by such conflict, will accommodate, if not invite, a corresponding increase in aggression.
As a consequence, this drive has risen to, and maintained at or about, its theoretical limit: the point at which it becomes self-destructive. Stepping beyond this point means risking extinction. Staying behind it may mean losing the battle; and risking extinction.
You cracked me up!
As I see it, the only scenario that fully satisfies the one James has set forth is the miserable life of the Russian Lakov family who fled to escape the Bolsheviks into the depths of a Siberian forest, discovered in 1978 by a team of geologists. Otherwise, as long as there exists a tract of land to buy for my utopia, taxes will be owed. That’s just for starters. Can’t be helped!
“two-part principle describes a simple yet paradoxical relationship between creativity and destructivity” but it does not address the degraded thinking processes that result from “low fat, Fluoride, sugar, drugs ……( fill in the blanks ) etc.
Try convincing the unthinking/programmed that one can improve brain function and memory – now there is a task!
From the little i know seems both Logic and Reasoning have been dropped from school curricula.
Probably too busy arguing ‘trump is good/bad’ or some such demonstration of towering intellect.
Reminds me of this…old…ultimate dream of mine…
The Woman in the Moon
“…I believe there’s a best of both worlds
Mixing old and new
Recognizing change is seldom expected
As i long suspected
They believed that strange was a word for wrong
Well not in my song…”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ1WjrA5L0s
well actually, subscriptions nothwithstanding, maybe a ‘pay to post’ system wouldn’t be such a bad idea after all… to avoid this sort of reckless use of the ‘submit’ button…
moving right along…
Are you kidding? Not at my rate of commenting! I’m on a budget here. JimBob who don’t cotton to no more extra expenses.
“Are you kidding?”
Well,uh, yes actually…
Well thank Krampus for that! The way I like to talk, that’d bankrupt me. 🙂
Recommended Reading article “EU Blocks US Sanctions Against Iran”
This will be an interesting issue to watch unfold because now the European companies have essentially been given an ultimatum. Either follow the new EU “blocking statute” and lose out on the entire US market and any other market that uses US banks to conduct business, or comply with the US sanctions and be punished by the EU. Tricky.
Anyone know of alternative link for ‘Refreshing breath of truth video” as YouTube does not play this vid in Australia?
Also does anyone else experience slower/no connection to d tube?
It should turn up here sometime in the near future, hopefully.

Dtube was a bit slow for me too, it struggled initially but after a few minutes it was OK.
Google Selfish Ledger:
Are they trying to epigenetically modify ‘transient carriers’ (their name for humans) over generations? Epigene splicing?
“…over time, by selecting these options the user’s behavior may be modified…and the ledger moves closer to its target…
…over time, as the notion of a “goal-driven†ledger becomes more palatable…â€
more palatable…
“…suggestions may be converted, not by the user, but by the ledger itself…
in this case the ledger is missing a key data source which it requires to “better understand†this user…
in order to plug the gap in its knowledge it starts searching for a device that delivers the data when used…”
when no match, it creates a customized object that might appeal to the tastes of the user thus plugging the gap
“refining its model of human behavior…”
“…user data survives beyond the limits of our biological selves in much the same way that genetic code is released and propogated into nature…
by thinking of user data as multi-generational
…it becomes possible to make increasingly accurate prédictions about décisions and future behaviors…
our ability to interpret user data
along with the exponential growth in sensor-enabled objects
will result in an increasingly detailed account of who we are as people, new patterns become apparent and new prédictions possible…”
behavioral sequencing
just as the examination of protein structures paved the way to genetic sequencing the mass multi-generational examination of actions and results could introduce a model of behavioral sequencing…
…sequencers are increasingly able to target a part of the sequence and modify it to achieve a desired result
the ledger could shift from something that not only tracks our behavior but offers direction towards a desired result…”
?!!?
sounds like a really good spin for re-asserting that “Privacy is Theft”…
the colossal gaps left in game theory in social engineering filled by multi-generational user data collection, interpretation and modification…
So this is the bored programmer’s next project?
That is a scary video you referenced. I watched the Computing Forever clip where that Scottish fellow just rakes Google over the coals on it. Of course, this is why we have Scotland anyway. They are naturals for raking people over coals and such things. Especially their neighbors down south a bit. Eating limes and other such nonsense.
The idea of those borgs directing our agendas isn’t creepy at all. No sense resisting. You will be assimilated. JimBob who never was good at blending in, much less assimilating, what with him looking like an ax murderer according to the way cops look at him anyway.
The 8-minute ‘Google Selfish Ledger’ video is located in the “Recommended Viewing” section above if you’re interested and yes, it’s creepy. If it’s genuine, it’s a most eloquent confession of both the death of privacy and their priority of Social Engineering through actually rewiring human behavior.
I was particularly struck by their use of the word “Palatable”.
I’ll have to take a post-hamster wheel peek at that computing forever clip…
Occurred to me that most of my ancestors were Scottish… I always did have this inexplicable aversion to limes…
Well that’s because limes are so tricky. In Mexico they call themselves limons, but they didn’t fool me! JimBob who is smarter than the average limon, though there are some crafty ones out there.
I really enjoyed this “Short Story” Coding The Perfect Matrix by James Corbett. It should be encouraged voluntary reading in school.
At one point in the story, I was reminded of this classic line from Star Wars – Episode 3 (which I finally recently watched)…
“So this is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause.” – Senator Amidala
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpYgCAVJHog
The “matrix dwellers” featured in James’ piece are more likened to domestic animals in a pen.
The “matrix” womb is the only thing they’ve ever known. Of course the “matrix” is nothing more than wanting to be ruled over, through generations of conditioning
Most folk do not want to be unplugged/unchained. Just a glimpse of what’s beyond “the matrix” (a truly wild and free human) scares the daylights out of them.

Love the closing lines Shot. Outstanding
Thank you James – I absolutely love this article.
And it perfectly reminds me of “Escape from Freedom” by Erich Fromm, which I’ve recently returned to in response to one comment of my friend under my repost of these articles:
https://gizmodo.com/google-employees-resign-in-protest-against-pentagon-con-1825729300
https://www.silicon.co.uk/e-innovation/research/google-staff-quit-military-drone-project-232399?inf_by=5afdd6e7671db846778b57e9
He added under these, that in our lovely static Poland, when he told a few of your-normal-average-Joe-programmers (link to Polish article -> https://gadzetomania.pl/6611,projekt-indect-agh-tworzy-narzedzie-masowej-inwigilacji ) “hey, look they are setting up an INDECT operating institution here in Cracow, isn’t it horrid and disgusting?” some of them just reply “meh, sign of times, there’s gonna be new jobs, so whatever, let’s get back to consumption”.
I ended up adding this quote from Fromm:
“At first many found comfort in the thought that the victory of the authoritarian system was due to the madness of a few individuals and that their madness would lead to their downfall in due time. Others smugly believed that the Italian people, or the Germans, were lacking in a sufficiently long period of training in democracy, and that therefore one could wait complacently until they had reached the political maturity of the Western democracies. Another common illusion, perhaps the most dangerous of all, was that men like Hitler had gained power over the vast apparatus of the state through nothing but cunning and trickery, that they and their satellites ruled merely by sheer force; that the whole population was only the will-less object of betrayal and terror.
In the years that have elapsed since, the fallacy of these arguments has become apparent. We have been compelled to recognize that millions in Germany were as eager to surrender their freedom as their fathers were to fight for it; that instead of wanting freedom, they sought for ways of escape from it; that other millions were indifferent and did not believe the defense of freedom to be worth fighting and dying for.”
…and so we pondered on it for now. But that entire meta-belief structure, making up a seemingly perfect excuse to get back to sleep, that is just entrenched into our global human mass subconciousness really makes me feel a lot of anger.
And that is good, since that kind of anger sooner of later gets good articles writted. Even if it’s not me who fulfils the philosophical function of the Author (hello, hi and thank you to Michel Foucault in the bardo/outskirts of the Matrix).
Now that was nice. By the way, I can’t help but notice that the matrix article sums up with fancy words and plots and other such stuff that I don’t do because of a lack of motivation my earlier statement that the whole she-bang is a lie. Obviously, that places this article to the number one spot as in my fantasy world, I was the inspiration. Please, do not bother me with your silly facts; I’m waiting in line for the next matrix. JimBob who has often wondered why people are so afraid of being free.
